I have memphis 6.5 components all the way around in my jeep and they sound great. I've had alpine, mtx, kenwood, audiobahn, and others in my vehicles and the memphis have got me hooked. Mtx a close second. Price isn't bad either!

I had it installed today. Ended up putting the tweeters where they normally would go in XJs with the infinity system. Still wish I had the stock holders instead. They stick out kinda far. Sounds pretty good but the rear speakers sound a little weak. Not sure why. The headunit is pretty sweet though.

Probably need a sub at some point though.

I put mine on the bottom of the a pillar trim. A couple inches above the dash. It seems to help hear the music over the wind noise with the windows down.

However, ideally the tweeter should be as close to the mid range speaker as possible.

Why is that? (hijack alert! :eyes I've got some 6.5 audiobahns with the tweeter up by the lower portion of the wind wing in that little plastic trim piece. Separation is good but actually sounds a little better from outside the jeep (?) I'm swapping parts over to another xj and wanted to improve the sound of the front speakers. Suggestion?

While Talyn is correct the millisecond difference in wave arrive is not going to be noticed without a Real time Analyzer you are not going to know where the peaks and valleys are at in the sound curve, so unless your SQ'ing your Jeep don't focus on this.
The real world issues you are going to face with the tweeter closer then the mid driver is the tweeter (highs) overpowering the mids.

You can overcome this by attenuating the tweeters -3DB. Many components have this option in the crossover box, check the manual for yours. If not you can also use a resistor pack to accomplish this.

Second, While I dont' put much faith in speaker and amp wattage ratings I always "overpower" my mids and highs. If the speaker ratings are 100W I drive them with an amp rated in the 150 to 200W range.
The reason I do this is the RMS ratings are in a lab under ideal conditions, you are not going to match that in your vehicle. so while your amp is rated at 100W your probable not getting that output without driving distortion.
Put in an amp rated at 200W and lower the gain, the amp works more effenciently and you should see better mid responce.
