Hey Im new to this, looking to get an XJ trail rig for mostly weekend rides. Doesnt have to be pretty(at all), just mechanically sound. I would have to drive it to and from wheeling trips so its gotta be reliable and running well now, i dont want a fixer-upper to start with. Would like to find something set up for trails already, i.e. lifted, tires, some armor maybe

Im in Fort Collins/Loveland area and only want to spend about $2000 or less. Any know of any for sale or what resources I can use to look for one? Ive found some on the forums but they are pretty far away. Id prefer something local but I might end up going 8-900 miles to get one if I have to (found a real nice one but damn thats a long trip). Thanks for any help

NAXJA (both Colorado chapter as well as the Classifieds) and www.colorado4x4.org/vbb come to mind immediately.

$2000 budget? I wouldn't expect a highly-modified rig, but you should be able to find a few stock rigs in that price range. That is a pretty good start, and highly capable without major mods. Drive it stock, figure out what you need for your style of driving, and modify appropriately.

Thanks, those are actually two sites Ive been checking a lot lately. I havent thought too much about getting a stocker, I need to consider that I guess.

A stocker isn't realy that bad of an idea. I went snow bashing in mine before the lift, and it impressed the .... out of me. I put the lift on anyway.

You don't wanna know how much I paid and what was wrong to make it that cheap, either. But your budget should get you into a fairly decent XJ.

I'd also keep an eye on craigslist.org and ebay as well. I was looking for a stock XJ a couple of months ago and there were modified rigs showing up quite often on craigslist around the Denver area.

I found a nice lifted 91 xj (with 149k), new 32's, sliders, swing out tire carrier/bumer, and winch mountable front bumper for $2600 in cali, cheapest shipping I found was around $500... just to give you an idea.

I'm heading out there next week and totally didn't need to read that!
