Since you are practically a local, why don't you set one up? That might interest a few people from up here to head down your way. I know there is a snow run in January, why not shoot for a weekend in March? What is the weather like down there in March?

i was just down there with all my toyota buddy's for surf-n-turf.
and as we were leaving i saw lauren (dark green xj, 35's...)

pismo is awseome. set up a run before nov.26th and im down

practically a local. yea your right on that one but im not really into the sand. just a pain in the butt to get it out of everywhere water cant get to, last time i was there i jumped it about 6 ft or so and bent a bunch of stuff. went head on with a toyota going about 40 and all i did was bent lower control arm bracket and popped my tire. yea i was pretty hammered too. wont be doing that again. anyways im down to go anytime just to get a bunch of cherokees together. after seeing SANTA's video in calico im very interested in going there soon as well seeing its only 99.9 miles(mapquest rocks) away from my house. But ill try to see when is a good time for me to take a weekend off from work and ill try to update this post.

Hmmm, 100 miles to Calico? Are you going to the Rockn' XJ Jamboree in Johnson Valley on the 17th and 18th. Not much further than Calico, and it will be a big group out there. There will be easy, moderate, and hard trail runs for anyone who wants to come that weekend. A trip to the Hammers with this group is always a great time.

For the Pismo run. Just make it simple, pick a date and see who shows up. Doesn't have to be anything more than a time and a date to meet.

i'd love to go to JV but i dont have a cage quite yet so i dont want to take any chances other than that id be there. also about the pismo run im taking a weekoff work next month so i have to convince my boss to let me take a saturday off work. id like to make it a weekend wheeling trip and not just a sunday trip. working 6 dats a week 11 hours a day, kinda hard to plan for any trip. But ill talk to my boss about a weekend in a couple months and ill be sure to let everyone know and see who is willing to come.

You don't need a cage, since you have a hard top. I bet less than 5% of the XJ's out there will have cages. The XJ roof has proven to be pretty durable, quite a few examples of XJ's rolling both on the trail and on the highway and the roof during it's job to protect the occupants. Cages are a good thing to have, but not necessary.

If you can make it to the JV event, you'd be glad you did. Check it out on the SoCal forum.

we talked about this last time Richard. I was planning on heading down there when you setup the last pismo run a few months ago but i couldnt make it cause i had to work and a few other minor things were wrong with my XJ. also about a year or so ago i say you towing your rig through Atascadero on the freeway. I was so surprised to see a Naxja member driving through this town. I was on the other side of the freeway in the 90 OD green xj runnin 35" BFG AT's with 4.5" lift, now im runnin about 7-8" lift still with 35" gonna get a set of 37" next week or so. They are used about 1/2 tread left but they are for free so i cant complain.

Yes, I remember. Are you keeping those 35's around for trail work? The 37's would work in the sand, but hit any rocks with them and that D30 is gonna complain horribly. Ask AZ Rick, I think he broke every time he went out after putting on the 37's, then he put in a front 60/9.

im actually heading to JV, not with my jeep but with my stock 96 blazer picking up a front 44 from derek (JMAXJ). so once i get that in ill be happy and not worried as much about the 35" i think im just gonna use the 37" for the dunes and on road to the trails. Im not sure how the 8.8 and the 44 would hold up to the 37" on trails and i dont feel like breaking them already. I dont know why but i am very prone to getting pulled over. not for speeding just fix it tickets, like no front liscence plate or fender flares. now that i run beadlocks with the 35" im sure they will heckel me about them as well. not sure how im gonna do it but i am. just did a comanche tailgate install with 36 buld leds in the back and im sure ill get pulled over for them being WAY TO BRIGHT.

I don't think "Bead Locks" are illegal for street use. They just don't have a DOT approval rating for street use. I asked a CHP commercial officer about this once, and he did not know of any CCR Title 13 codes, or Vehicle codes that specifically restricted Bead Locks for street use. There may be, but he was not aware of any off the top of his head. Kind of like the lift kit; they are not DOT approved, but still legal as long as you don’t go too high. (As far as I know) * Center of head lights to ground; 54” or less is legal. Lowest point of frame to ground for an XJ is: 31” or less to stay street legal. :)

I think the main reason most manufacturers of Bead Lock wheels state they are for off road use only, is a liability issue, not so much a legal issue. There may be civil penalties if part of the bead lock comes off and injures someone while going down the highway; but that is true of just about anything falling off your rig going down the highway. If someone knows of a Code section that states it is illegal to use "Bead Locks" on the street in CA, let us know. Anyone ever get sighted for this in CA?

dont know exactly but right now im right about both of those. but thanks for the heads up on the beadlocks. ive always thought they werent street legal..

Beadlocks not being legal for street use is like an urban myth......no fact to back it up. Even if there was a law, no officer would be familiar with it, or even care. The DOT thing is sort of dumb. How much stuff do we put on our jeeps or trucks that has a DOT approved emblem on it? BTW, my American Racing rims that have been converted to beadlocks by Champion have a DOT emblem on the inside.

Be sure to spring for chromo axle shafts in the D44, or it won't be much stronger than the D30.

Glad you're going to make it to JV. :)

going to JV in my stock blazer not my jeep but id love to take some pics of the other jeeps off the road.

Correction:
1/2 ton or less GVWR, max frame height is 27."
3/4 ton is 30"
1-ton is 31."
