You can always cut them down to whatever size you like. 3' long owuld get you out of whatever it was you were stuck in, if you bought a 10' peice you can cut them down into threes and and make it work.
 
I know I'm not a member of this chapter, but I like looking through the pictures here. In the midwest we have tons of slop all year round. I made some "bridging ladders" from a pair of old metal ramps for working on a car. I just took my angle grinder and cut the vertical ends off. I only run 235/75/15 BFG ATs, so sometimes crossing a ditch or v-notch is too difficult. These have done the trick in the past for me.
