What's your strangest flat tire...

I call this one, "I got a bone to pick with you"

Must have hit somebody's leftovers. Guy at Discount said it was a first for him.

On my '98 Jetta. Need something with kevlar. This happened while driving, though it looks like someone (who is really bored and weird) could have pounded it in.

2 weeks ago i went out to see the wifes drivers side rear flat. didnt notice till i went to change it that there was a knife blade sticking out of the side wall. no handle just the blade. i dont know who she pissed off (she pays no attention to her blind spots when she drives) but the knife must have snapped when they stabbed the tire. :dunno:

I,ve seen the bones before,usually from some small animal,rabbit or such.Had a little old lady come in with a complaint that something was hitting the rear fender as she drove,just started as she came thru intersection.
Inspection showed a black rubber "trucker style" tie down strap in the sidewall of the tire--S hook went right in---.
My latest was a flat in the driveway after checking air pressure---cracked valve stem--damn Chinese crap

My dad had a pair of fingernail clipper some how get pinched onto the valve stem while driving on the interstate one day. No joke, on a road trip, and about 1oomi into it.

I picked up a crossmember bolt in my tire one time. It was at noon on a saturday and all the tire shops close at 12:30 luckily i live close to one!

I found 3/4 of a house key in the tire on my old XJ....other than that it's just been the usual nail and screw.

At my job I also change tires. Some of the stranger things we have pulled out
A Crowbar(tore up the fender too)
A pair of Pliers
A deer Antler
A 10 inch long peice of metal that looked like an extended sway bar end link.
A 6 inch round Washer

Weirderst one I had was when I got a nail stuck in my tread. Got ready with the plug kit and pulled it out only to discover it wasn't leaking any air from there. What gives? I finally figured it out and discovered my bead was leaking. Poured a little gasoline on it to soften the rubber and pumped it back up, no leak.

In my semi, I had someone blow a motor in an Oldsmobile in front of me. Parts and pieces went everywhere.

I got down the road aways and stopped to check things out. One of my tires was flat. It had a pushrod through the tire.

:shocked: wow that is pretty strange.

I think the best one I ever saw was the tire iron (just the L shaped ones they include with most cars) stuck into some lady's tire. She came in for an oil change and when we asked why her rear right tire was so low, she said it had been making a thumping noise... we checked and it had an entire tire iron stuck in it, with just the lug wrench end hanging out.

Second oddest was the guy I chased on foot for a block waving and yelling before he pulled over, most of his tire was gone (sidewalls blown) and for some reason he was so oblivious he didn't even notice.

I've had a 1/2' drill bit stab right through the center of my tire backwards. Somehow the flat end went straight through the tire and you could only see just the tip. I was more amazed how I didn't hear it.

Once on my FJ-40 must have run over a deer carcass, had a rib bone in my tire.

Merging onto the Pa Turnpike i started hearing a loud clicking turned out to be an allen wrench.

My faves:
Thinking I'd somehow killed my CV joint in a minivan... rhythmic clack that sped up and slowed down with the van--it was one of the big 1"+ square head "nails" they use for nailing down flat roofing.

I flattened a tire in western WA hitting black ice on the wooden bridge by my brother's house... I slid into the 8x8 wooden "curb", taking a 1/2"x1" wedge of wood out of the curb & inserting it between the rim & tire on my Rambler. Tire was fine once we reseated the bead.

My friend Susan, while running Pancake Rock trail with me & others here in San Diego managed to tear her valve stem right out of the time when it caught on a rock. Instaflat! Again, tire was fine with a new valve stem in it.

I've managed to avoid getting bones in my rubber, though =).

Last winter I parked the XJ for the night. I am absolutely sure when I parked it there were no flat tires. Came back out in the morning to leave and the right front tire was flat, totally off the bead. I filled it with starter fluid and exploded it back onto the rim, and it's been fine ever since.
