Very shortly I'm selling my Bronco. I've still got the tow rig and the Jeep, but looking at getting an XJ for scooting around town and keeping miles off the tow rig.

Soooo, a friend of my parents, her daughter has a 95 XJ sport 4d 4x4 4.0 auto with 170k on it. Its got power window/locks and working A/c. Has a few minor noises and annoyances that she doesnt either know how to fit or doesn't want to pay to fix. Stuff that can probably be fixed for free or cheap. What's this thing worth, it looks real good for 170k, no rust to be seen from looking at the outside of it. She'll sell it when she sees money in her face, I want to offer her a fair price, but not pay to much either. I know NADA, Kellys Blue, and those others are out there, but I was curious what the NAXJA crowd thought. I'm located in the midwest.

$5000?

I always look at Edmunds when I'm buying, and Kelley's when I'm selling.

5k? I know she bought it a couple of years ago for 2,500. And she knows its older (in her eyes) and has a lot of miles. To me it would be a great XJ to cruise around town in.

Anyone else ever see one similarly equiped for sale? either stealership or private seller?

There is a mint looking green '96 4-door XJ Sport for $3500 at a used car dealer near me, I dunno the mileage. I think $1000 for something of that mileage (referring to your potential '95) would be a reasonable offer, let her counter.

fully loaded she would have a hard time getting $2500 for it. That type of miles no one wants it but a handy man....or someone looking to put a lot of money into it....either way there is no way someone would pay 5K ....look on Ebay you can get a 97 for that ..... XJ values have dropped like a rock due to them not being made anymore.....not to mention the HUGE drop in used car prices due to 0% finance offers being on the table for new cars since 9/11

PS lots of used XJs up here, dealers looking for anything they can get for em!

i bought my xj 2 years ago thats a 94 se with the 4.0l and auto and air all the options and it was 3500... i would say 3k for the xj and mine had the same number of miles at the time of purchase

see i was thinking about offering her 2k to 2,500, but i didnt want it to be so low that I was insulting her. That's the range I was thinking, with that many miles most people that dont work on the XJs so much or dont access a board such as this, 170k would scare them. And like Chewy said, I dont want to insult folks with XJs (like myself) but there values are horrid right now with them not being made and great financing on new cars and so many used cars out there on the market.
