I've touched 100, maybe 102, just to say I've done it (NEVER do it again, and yes it was well out of the city). I'll run LA to Vegas and back at about 80-85.
About 95mph decelerating on an offramp exiting the freeway in my 98 xj 4.0, Gibson exhaust, JET chip, K&N, 4.5" w/ 31" BFG ATs. I do not know how fast I was going before I started to decelerate, it was stable as heck though, drove like a dream, I have no fear in taking it to 85+ knowing it can handle more. Oh, and that was when I was late for a Gretchen Wilson/Montgomery Gentry/Brooks & Dunn concert! LOL :laugh3:
lol gretchen and kenny chesney are comming here to pitt. cant wait. I have topped out the jeep, which was at stock...so really i cant say anything. but my question is, when your running 80+ that i6 is turning around 3k. Is it ok to turn it out that fast for a long period of time. I also have a rx7 that loves the top end, but i feel like i am pushing the i6 up that high.
110 or so on 33s and 4.88s at about 4.5".
No swaybars.
Actually, I routinely break 100 around Clevetown, just to beat rush hour.
Still steers with 1 finger.
I cruise at 75-85 for about 4 hours driving to Boston for school, 6" lift, 33" balanced truxs's, 4.56's, no swaybars (kept breaking the axle mounts) and corrected speedo. It feels stable and I would do it all day. I always get funny looks from people when I cuise past them in a lifted XJ .
I have gone 95 MPH. in my 85 wagoneer with 2.5 inline four cylinder, 3 inch lift, 31.10.5 bfg radial mud terrains not balanced, no sway bar in the front, 3.73 gears, and a heavy foot. I think the RPM's were at about 4900. Somewhere in that range. The jeep's engine was humming pretty high but she always holds that RPM even in the mud. Kind of suprises me sometimes. Jeep has no bad body vibes only from the engine. Slow down for corners on the highway at that speed though.
Burried speedo in a 96 (85 is buried), with 35's, 4.56, full width 44 and 9". Tach was only at 3100 rpm. Was quiet, smooth and it rode better than going 65. Oh yeah, no steering stablizer either.
when it was stock i got pulled over on I-27 doing 127mph and actually got away with a verbal warning (gotta love the military ID :laugh3: )
with my 3" lift and 31's without sway bars plus low air pressure i did about 90-95 from Uhwarrie to Fayetteville, to get back for a callout
130ish a while back w/ 3" lift & 30's following a couple of girls home from the club (must of been scared of the fugly heepaperworkaperwork)
i think it's pretty funny how people think the newest, more complicated car is sooooo much better...aperwork:looser:aperwork
Buried 85mph speedo with wrong speedo gear (guessing a little over 90mph) on my old '87 with about 5" of lift on balanced 31's,no swaybars, no SYE, no shims, original driveshaft and slip yolk and I couldn't feel any noticeable vibes and it felt pretty stable. Alignment (toe adjustment) was done by me with a tape measure. Wind noise and lifter noise was bad. I regularly drive 70mph in it with no problems. Stock 3.55 gears keep the rpms pretty low. Yup my gas mileage sucks...
I run her between 70/80mph every day almost 80mi round trip to work and back. Had her to 100 before, and crused there for about 35-40 min seem to take it just fine. Got a 3" on 31/10.50's. Had the ZJ to 105mph one day(smoked that ricer Civic) then the old lady took her to 125mph just to say she's had it faster than me.
I've gone "m" without recalibrating on 31s and 3", no swaybars. at stock height I was clocked at 126, which was past "m". I blew up that motor going 80 on the highway at a later date. I'd say such abuse is why it died young at only 211k mi. hitting 6k in the mud regularly couldn't have helped. good motors. good trucks. you all are in the right place.
I've had a bone stock 42 MB up to almost 50 once, downhill with a tail wind, and I had to use both lanes. my father claims it once did 55, drafting behind a semi.
I was clocked at 120mph with 5.5 inches of lift 34's a 5 speed and 3.07 gears comming back from Vegas.. Lost my liscense for 1 year and paid $500.00 dollar fine to stay out of Jail.. Oh, and No swaybars... Off road I've done 80+ in 4lo with the same setup... My friends hated racing me back to camp.. They always loose..... :laugh3:
My new rig is a 4cylinder so I don't drive so fast...
