What would you pay?

I think what it is worth and what people would pay might be different, but. I met a guy who said he was going to sell his Comanche, but didn't have any idea how much he wanted to sell for.
It is an 87, shortbed, many miles, interior is shot, minor lift, 32's, 4cyl, 4speed, 4x4, and it was a ranch truck. Assuming it is mechanically sound, how much would you offer for it? That is, if it was something that you would want for your first truck, but you have to pay for it yourself, as a teenager working landscaping. :D Thanks. Oh yeah, in northern CA.

I bought my MJ a few years ago in similar shape.
4.0 though
He wanted 1500, but took 500

I'd start at 250.

It isn't your run of the mill truck this thing most likely has been beaten to death out on the back 40

Three years ago I paid $500 for an '88 MJ, 5-speed, 4WD, 4.0L, 4" Trailmaster lift. Interior was decent, body solid. Needed an exhaust system and catalytic converter.

Conversely, there's a Shell station near me selling an '86 4-cyl with a snow plow. The guy is asking $3000 or $3500 (I think he's somking something).

It's worth whatever you're willing to pay for it. I'd probably offer $200 or $250 and be willing o go up to maybe $400 but no higher.

Gentlemen, that is exactly what I wanted to hear. Would it make much of a difference that this is California? Doesn't hurt to make an offer anyway, maybe I'll be learning to drive a manual in the next week. Thanks.

I'm in Connecticut, prices here are as high as California if not higher.

Well, I called the guy on my lunch break and offered $500. He said he was looking for $1500-$2000. Then he said he had a $500 stereo in it. As if he thinks he'll get $500 back out of it. Oh, and he couldn't tell me how many miles it had, and he said the speedo broke a month and a half ago. Anyway, I figure that for that much, I oughta be getting some of the things I want, like a 4.0L and maybe an AW-4. At least now that that MJ is no longer in consideration, I can look for somethng that I would rather have. :) Thanks for the help.

And he claims he has a $500 stereo in it? AND he expects to get the $500 for the stereo PLUS another $1000 for the truck when it's a rolling junk pile? What are people smoking out there in California these days? I guess we know what he grows on his ranch :)
