what winch do you recommend for use in california?

Im not upset at all you must be forgetting how sometimes things sound on the internet. I was just giving my point of view. Nothing more than that and maybe busting Dave chops a little but thats it

And warns fail also I was wheeling with a guy ealry this year at Hollister who replaced his Warn due to failyer so yes they are a much better product like I have already said in this post but warn also fails and yes Phile if you hand over your Warn winch I will be really happy. :)

It sounds like Dave is getting upset though. I was just saying not everyone can afford a 500.00 dollar winch. Thats why I have a Smitty built yes at some point I will buy a Warn. I would like to point out that those pictures Dave posted up are great to see but looking at them a little closer it doesn't look like anyone was running any kind of mud tire at all.
I doubt it would have helped either way but we are talking about being prepared and I
would say running all terrains in conditions like that are also not advised however this is my opinion for what its worth.

Cool pictures. I think that in the case where the 8 could not pull the rig, but the 9 did, its possible the condition of the battery, cables, alternator, and contacts may have been the deciding factor rather than the weight rating of the winch. I would have no problem running an m8000 on my rig. 8274 is rated at 8000 and I would take it over my warn 9500 if it was easy to fit.

screw you guys im getting that new vehicle that traverses all terrain and never gets stuck...a pack mule...and if youre running out of food you can eat it in an emergency...and you can talk to it when youre lonely......LOL...hahahahah........actaully ill be looking for a winch as soon as i buy billy some wire for his mig so i can beg him to weld up my winch bumper....or maybe just a class III hitch up front so i can use the winch front and rear if i build a box to go in the hitch....

Yeah, its all about the install too. Its all about connections, the condition of the battery and charging system. I knew a guy who ripped the ears off the case of a Warn, your kind of F'd when the winch isn't attached to you truck anymore, hahahaha. Come to find out his bumper was tweaked and the winch wasn't bolted down flat and it stressed it bad.

No, just sick of the ball busting with little to no useful information.

Look at the photos again, only the one YJ had BFG AT's, every one else was on MT/R's, IROK or BFG Muds. Tires don't help much when your frame is on the ground.

As far as the 8000 not pulling, we had to use the XJ as dead weight because I was pulling the Yellow TJ. With the extra weight the 8000 got to a point where it had no more pull. Using my 9000 was a last chance move by me, as most just wanted to be done and get out of the cold. My winch line was frayed from early in the day and the thought of watching it snap was the only thing that keeped people from leaving my jeep. Looking back we should have used both winches at the same time but after a full day of wheeling and 5 hours of winching the cold can bring out the tempers and slow down the brains.

That was a long and expensive day for a few people:

See any Red snow behind that jeep? :firedevil

Okay Dave so your sick of ball busting stop XXXXing busting mine So i bought a cheap winch go spend 550.00 dollars on a Warn winch what the XXXX do i care its not my winch or my Jeep. I also don't make shit loads of money like all you hardcore guys to buy high dollar parts. At least i could afford to buy a cheap winch for the lame XXXXing trails I drive my lame cheap XXXXing Jeep on. XXXX

You had to bring that up didn't you? That was the last day I wheeled my junk with an automatic trans. Between all the mud and snow and being stuck so bad so many times I smoked that pile of crap AW4 something good. That was the 5th one I had blown up in 3 years. Swapped in a NV3550 and never looked back.

Back to the drama. Who cares what type of winch you have, or how much power it has, or how much money you spent. Go wheel you crap and stop worrying about what the guys in the internet think. Grow a set and make your own XXXXing decision.

Wow!

How am I bustin your balls? I am in no way talking smack about you or your choice in a winch. I just put up my thoughts and I never said yours are wrong.

I am just answering your questions and clearing up any miss understandings to what happened and what was used.

No need to be upset, you were not there so it seems different to you, nothing wrong with that.

Nothing wrong with me telling it how it was, is there?

Okay Dave all I was saying is that not everyone can afford a 1,300.00 dollar winch I cant that's why I bought my 260.00 dollar winch but then you want to pipe up and talk about how you got stranded and the only way you got unstuck was your expensive winch. I used my cheap winch 3 times last weekend and If i didnt have it I would have been screwed. You seem like you just want to keep pushing there are just diffrent opinions not everyone has to agree with yours. In all reality my Jeep may never see Rubicon or Fordyce I hope it does but my first priorty is school and my second is knocking up my fiance at this point I could care less about my bucket of bolts in my driveway And if my winch fails I will buy a Warn if it fails while I am stranded in the snow and I need to leave my Jeep I will its not the end of the world thats why we all wheel togther correct.

WOW this thread puts my two teenage daughters at the end of the month to shame. :yelclap:

I wasnt mad until he implied that I had no use full information. Just because your buddies winches burned up in there particular situation doesnt mean that mine will or that I will ever be in the same situation. Its never been an issue for me wheeling in the midwest because we usually had a 4 wheel drive tractor to pull us out so why would we need a winch. Or we just left the vehicles until the field would dry out enough to get unstuck. My usefull information is this Dave if you cant afford a 1,300 dollar 9000 thousand pound winch at least buy a 260.00 dollar 8,000 pound winch its better that nothing especially if your are doing some easy trails like Stonyford or Hollister hills by yourself and if you do find yourself doing more trail like Rubicon it may make sence to buy a better winch hows that for usefull information
