What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Looks like the track bar is the culprit, major play on the frame end

Got some work done today, greased fittings, replaced the front brake pads, tested and bleed the front brakes all on the old 89, and then the fuel pump died, and the brake booster started hissing.

Got an early look at the pending steering gear box swap on the 87.

Any one know what size the nut on the output shaft to the pitman arm is? I need to buy a socket for it, but don't know the size?

Got started making (layout and drilling the center hole with a hole saw), the steel repair plate for the 85 firewall where the clutch master cylinder came loose due to firewall rust, and cracking...:rattle:.

Bought the new steel MC for the pending brake work on the new 89.

AND......Wait for it:D......

LOL.....

my old friend (30 years?) the mail man told me today his brother has what may be a Renix vintage Cherokee, 4 BANGER in his garage for sale!!!! He knocked on my door and asked if I might be interested in another jeep today!!!!

:D

I tried not to act too interested, LOL!!!!:roflmao:

It wasn't easy, LOL, since I had watched for 2 years for a 4 banger gas saver DD.

No details yet, maybe a 4x4, he was pretty sure it was a stick shift, manual...

BIG SHOUT OUT to Rich and Jay for driving all the way to my place yesterday to help with my lift on the front end. No wait... they did not help... they did it all :)

Not only that but they pointed out I had the relocation brackets in the rear installed with incorrect angles :(

So today I change the brackets and install new brake cables...

THANKS AGAIN to Rich and Jay!!!!

You are very welcome Roger....

Did you try to switch those bolts around on your shackles as well or did you just get new ones so that they tightened down correctly? You need atleast a few threads showing out of the lock nut for it to be right. I aim for a bolt that is long enough to atleast have an 1/4 to 1/2 inch of bolt showing when tightening down any nut.

Yep got new bolts... and switched the others out along with the relocation bracket.

Got the brake lines done but need to bleed them and I'm by myself :( will wait for Susan or ask a bud to come step on the brakes one night this week.

I have a low fluid warning light and NO BRAKES the level in the resavoir is fine guess I let air in :(

Get some speed bleeders. Best things ever.

Coaxed the 89 into starting, so it is NOT the fuel pump:D. But the fuel pump does not prime before cranking. Time to trace the alternate wire circuit!!

Got started pulling the steering gear box today. Bought a 1-2" US socket, 3/4 drive socket-ratchet set with breaker bar at HF junk express Friday (not bad for China junk, but then I DON'T expect to be able to over force 3/4" drive hardware by hand and break it, LOL!!!:laugh3: I think was $39. About 8-10 sockets.

Repaired some itty bitty vacuum lines on the 89....Opened up the CCV orifice and raised the idle about 150 rpm (it was dying)....got a steady 700 rpm hot now.

And worked on the 85 Firewall repair for the clutch master cylinder re-mount.

The steering gear swap looks deceptively simple, we will see.

I finally reinstalled my front drive shaft. I had removed it as it was squeaking at the last part of the last ride I was at. We had no grease gun so off it came for the drive home. Re-greased and installed. And I put my tc skid back on. And I re angled my shackles a bit more.

The speed bleeders looks good... do you have a source for the XJ 8.25??

Is this an Oreilly's or Autozone part??

I got all 4 at my O'Reillys down the street. I took a bleeder from both the front and the back off and brought them with me to make sure I got the correct sizes.

replaced the front axle U-joints. It's slowly getting quieter. There's still some random vibration/noise going on.

been working on my ford 8.8 swap and regear to 4.88 installed the rear drive shaft today after work.

decided after riding in my future brother in law's merc diesel powered 85 4runner. that my jeep needs a doubler, 6" of lift lots of trimming, and 36's. i have a feeling this one wont stay pretty long.

random vibration identified, I think. The rear pinion nut is loose. Again. I really need to just go buy a new one.

Now days buying parts is like buying a box of chocolates, you never what your gonna get!!!

Crusher... thanks for the info on the Bleeders. I'll remove one each this evening and take to O'reillys...

Anything special I need to know about them? I see on the Internet they are mentioning some sealant... think it's necessary?

Sealant? I just swapped them out, no sealant or anything with install. Hmm...
