What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Got part 1 of the steering overhaul taken care of.....also broke the clock spring. Damnit.

installed the new alternator, filled and burped the cooling system. i forgot how annoying closed systems are. and drove it around the block with much less worry that it'll explode and die. i think I got a keeper now!

took Tugger for a spin in the jeep, he approves of the jeep. so i took some pictures of it, and recycled a jeep seat and make a shop chair.

lack of front end stuff.

Got the new jeep home tonight, used the parking brake all the way, LOL.

Yes, I have 5 Renix era jeeps now.

I got a steal on this one. All it seems to really need is a master cylinder. The engine acts brand new, incredible power, 178,000 miles, the AC is all R-12 factory OEM, this beast looks like it has been extremely well cared for, 1989, 4X4, Cherokee Laredo, white.

welded up my spare hood... and burned holes in it

When you get that 2 wheeler finished, you should cruise on down to Houston and visit, LOL!

So one would think that with 5 jeeps, I would always have one ready to rock and roll, LOL! So tonight I hop in the one DD not being worked on, and boom, no brakes. WTF, are you serious? LOL

Opened the 2 year old, not reman, but brand new MC, and the rear is empty?

Filled it up, tested the brakes, and I was back on the road again.

No sign of any leaks. I wish all repairs were that easy, LOL!!!

Yeah, but where'd the fluid go to begin with?

My guess is the front calipers, worn front pads, that were new when I replaced the MC with a new MC about 3 years ago. The Brake booster was also newly rebuilt, and still works perfectly, so I don't see it leaking into the brake booster, and so far, on a quicky look under the jeep, I don't see any signs of a leak at the wheels. I will check the MC again in a few days, and see if it was, is indeed a leak, or just the front calipers filling up over time. I suspect I just never checked the brake fluid since the rebuild 3 years ago, and time got away from me.

The other option is the gremlins have mutated and starting eating DOT 3 brake fluid!

putting along at 10mph tops, i'll be there in months

OK, I marked the calender, LMAO!

I have an associate that commutes from Houston to Dallas each weekend. :)

Yeah, but where'd the fluid go to begin with?

Well I am asking that very question now. It emptied the reservoir again.:bawl:Will I ever get a brake? (Pun intended).

I think the aftermarket guys are supplying free gremlins with our parts, but not telling us!

The MC was leaking out the back side, this was a 3.5 year old, brand new (not reman) Master cylinder installed with a rebuilt Vacuum Brake booster, that as a package always had a mushy peddle, that I never solved. I installed another brand new (not rebuilt) cast iron MC today, and the mushy peddle is back. This one has baffled me for 3 years now.

I also did the caliper, pads and hose on the drivers side, just for fun. Made no difference.

I'll be taking notes as to what you find is the problem, brakes will be up on the list here soon I'm sure, and if my past history is any indicator, the gremlins will be out in force against me.

In that case may the FORCE be with you, LOL, and not the gremlins!

I restarted my old thread on my mushy brake problem, good history, and update there. I need some more ideas on that thread!!!

washed the truck (waste of $5!) painted the bumper, and now the battery is dead. I've got new spark plugs and am looking to get maybe some smaller, lighter, tires and wheels to get more than 12.5 MPGs... Maybe some 31" Moabs and KM2s...
