What was done to YOUR rig(XJ/MJ) today MECHANICALY????

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

I have never had to replace the CPS on my XJ. I've never had an issue involving it not running other than a dead battery here and there. Not excited for when I will have to. Which will probably happen today since this post is about it.

Drove it Allen. Checked transfercase fluid, seemed pretty empty. Put another quart in the transercase. Added some oil to the engine as well. Going to put a new motor mount on the driver's side probably tomorrow, then I can see about finishing up the passenger side brakeline. After that, it is wheelable in my book, but would still need bump stops and shocks... minor details. :D

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Jeep has been running rough lately, and while in Plano, it died. Ether limped it to autozone. Checked all connectors, tested fuel pressure (40psi), checked spark. Discoverd rotor and cap was chewed up, while replacing them discovered why. The threads for the hold down screws were stripped out on the dist. So went back in and bought a distributor. Finished install. Jeep started, was still having hiccups. Started back towards Sherman, but didn't make it far, died again. After doing the parking lot hop to get it to a better spot, locked it up and caught a ride back to Sherman. Will return later today with a trailer and dive into it find out whats wrong. Going to test the CPS, fuel pump, check plugs and wires, recheck grounds, and unless I'm missing something, if I dont find the source by then, its the ECM. Also dug out the for sale sign I had leftover from my truck :gonnablow

EDIT: Already replaced dist, cap, rotor, injectors, fuel filter, starter, battery and a few other misc random stuff in the past 4 months.

It is very common to get the dizzy installed one gear tooth off, and have that problem. There is an art to getting it in the sweet spot, many old threads here on how to do it. Try that first!!!

When I get around to tinkering with the jeep again I'll double check it. Pretty sure I nailed it, and it did run great for a given time.

Didn't get around to working on it, worked a gun show this weekend and now driving the urban assault suburban until I get around to fixing the jeep. Going to mess with it some more this week when I get a chance.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

Well left for work this A.M. and my lights where dim and noticed gauge said under 9 volts. Sooooo back up the drive way and got the Rig and drove that to work. Got home and it is charging at about 11 volts. So had to find receipt for alternator......I will install new one tomorrow after I warranty this one out....

So while looking up alternator at O'Reilly's I got another headlight for the rig as the high beam was out on one and a couple 100w H3 bulbs for my driving lights..

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today MECHANICALY????

last night i put in a modified 30 gal fuel tank then filled her up :) 130 bucks in gas... this morning i got in it to drive to work and it was empty... some bastard siphoned my tank :(

It was Jerry Brown. You silly CA people are getting bent over by your state .gov

So apparently I am an idiot. Somehow, I managed to believe that if there is no check engine light, there are no codes. Thanks to Swamprat, I went out and pulled some codes. CPS, MAP, vacuum leak. Pretty sure the vacuum leak was from that line I repaired so I'll clear out the codes and try and drive it aound, see what happens. Going to go ahead and drop the $62 on a CPS from Mopar, did some more googling and found that they can create intermittent problems. Anyways, today I'll do some more messing with it and hopefully, just maybe, I'll have a running Jeep again. Oh, and I just might celebrate by slapping on those mud rovers I have laying around.

Heard that an associate of mine at the plant I work at got taken for a ride, literally, by the plant's 96 Jeep, It took off and would not stop, tell it slammed into another car.... Guess another TPS bit the dust.

I've been working for 4 plus hours on replacing the uca bushing above the pumpkin. Yup.....all that time on one bushing. Needless to say, I'm a little tired and a lot pissed.

Well yesterday I tried to replace my front bumpstops and found out after tearing the front end apart that the bumps I bought werent the right ones. Apparently I have to use the size made for 99-01 jeeps from what I can figure. Anybody else have a 96 and feel like its the adopted kid sometimes? Nothing matches any other year.

LOl....my front bumps fell out a while back and I haven't had a chance to fix it. I guess I'll be using my new 5150's for bumpstops this weekend.

i have a 69'...lol... they are the basturd xj's...they changed e
alot of things in 96 then changed em again in 97...go figure...damn engineers

Will a ball joint press will get those bushing out like butter.....Yup I have one of those...But you didn't ask me yet so you didn't know that...lol

Today I got my warranty alternator for my DD 89' and tossed it in. Yay I'm charging at 14.3v now...

Actually I did know to use one and I did know you had one. I have one myself but things weren't going too well with it.

WOW.... holy need to go in more batman......if its not fixed by fri we will fix it at HF

Installed my CPS today, removed it in like 5 minutes and installed just as fast. If your wondering how, I'm can be rather flexible in the arms and have no issue getting intimate with the underside of the jeep. So far after multiple test runs it seems to be working and has not thrown any codes. We'll see what happens tomorrow when I drive it to work and put Murphy's law to the test.

Murphy's law always passes the test.
