Oh man that SUCKS like a donkey show. I am so sorry to hear that... one thing though.... why did it take you all four bolts to realize it wasn't a good idea?

its a safety thing its better to not have shocks then drive around with your shocks half on :P

They had to come out some time, so I just snapped them off. I'm going to hit them with a chisel tonight and see if I can get some new bolts/nuts in there. I'm also thinking about doing that rear sway bar mount as BPE mod but I haven't decided yet.

Haha, speaking of which the rear end feels like a pogo stick now.

Ok so driving around with a "pogo stick" in the rear is safer than having 3 out of 4 bolts holding your shocks on?

And don't get me wrong... I would have tried to remove them all also... But when I snap a bolt off... I try to figure out a way to get the others out w/o snapping them. Everytime I have to remove mine... I try and get WD-40 or PB Blaster on the threads as best as I can. I do it everyday for about 2 to 3 days prior to trying to remove them.

Remember I have an 1986 XJ... and I have never snapped one of those bolts. Am I scared to... yes! Do I take my time and not torque on them too much... yes.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

I'm afraid to manualy remove and install rims on a vehicle. :P I always feel like I'm gunna rip the threaded studs off.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Knock on wood, I have never broken one either, but I too have been considering shock relocation. Mainly for more suspesnion travel, but not worrying about those factory shock bolts is a big plus in my mind as well.

Easy there, I just backed it out of my garage and down my driveway so I could put my motorcycle back in. I didn't drive it to work today.

I tried all of my normal tricks on the other ones including hitting them with the torch, tightening first, putting the impact on it, etc.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

Oh no I was not talking about you... I was talking to Swamp.

But you put a torch to the bolt itself?

Tightening it first... ok I can see that but the impact has too much torque to "softly" remove those bolts.

Re: What was done to YOUR rig today?

I never use an impact on that kind of stuff, but I will use an air ratchet occasionally.
