you need to NOT plug that completely off..

--its similar to the PCV connection common on most modern autos..

you simply need to add a fitting to the NEW air-tube and connect a rubber hose to it, so that the incomming air into that inlet is also filtered by you're new cold-air intake filter..

surely you can find some sorta abs 1/2" connector at a hardware store to add to the air-tube..

take a look at any of the aftermarket airtube/cold air intakes for 97+ xjs and you'll see what i'm refering to..
the OEM air-box did (or should have had a rubber hose connecting to this inlet from the "filtered-air" part of the box..

um...no. its not the pcv breather. But, you are correct that the breather does need to be reattached, and in his pic it is...

I think he capped it off..... ;)

Anyone verify what this port actually feeds?

Does your hood close with the intake going like that?

i discovered the exact same thing on mine, i was trying to track down the incessant whistle..... its nothing on the 2000. x13 on the cap it

I have a 2000 with the 4.0 I just looked there are two ports. the first one which is the one your picture shows just has a cap on it the second one (closer to the fire wall) has a hard line going around the back of the engine. Plug it off.

I think you should just cap it off. Oh, wait, did someone already mention that? My bad:laugh2: :D !! On second thought, maybe you should just cap it off.

It’s not his PCV breather so DO plug it. If there is an intake leak, it makes no difference where it comes from (bad gasket or unused port). Yes unfiltered air lets dirt in and that’s bad, but as far as how it runs with a vac leak, it makes no difference if that unwanted air is filtered or not. Plug it, plug it, plug it.

Hey bud, not to worry!!! Some xj's use it for something that requires vaccume!! In your case you can just cap it, $1 at your local NAPA for a rubber cap! Oh wait...did someone say that already?

maybe this would be a good time for some new accesory like a piss relief tube like the astronauts , for continuous off road injoyment

C'mon guys, he's in Canada. You need to touque it, not cap it. Use a metric size one, also, or you'll burn out your muffler bearings.

Cheers,

Steve

Your XJ will actually fold like a taco if you don't cap it.

This is like the Saturday Night Live skit with Chris Farley where he pretends to be Cher.
"Thank you Cher. And today, I'm just so excited. Because I want to talk about the exciting new products I added to the package we put together on Focus On Beauty one."
"That was a very exciting package!"
"That was very exciting."
"Indeed, it was so exciting."
