What ends do you recommend for custom track bar?

I have used poly bushings in the track bar before and felt they were ok at first, but fairly soon developed slop. I would never use them in that application again. The small RE joints seem to be working well so far. Jeff

i run 5/8x3/4 heims on both ends of my tie rod and draglink and 3/4x3/4 heims on my trac bar. the joints i have now, however, are cheap and very worn out. i've got some amazing clunking going on up front that makes it hell to drive on rough roads. im getting ready to shell out hundreds on new joints but i want someone w/ nice teflon raced $40+ joints to let me know how good the steering can be. can it drive like stock w/ really good heims?

two heims for me. no slop, cheap and low profile for the reason Paul mentioned. There is little room to fit frame mount, tie rod for high steer and pumkin clearance, so the 1" wide heim fits the bill for my application.

Where does one buy cheap stock rubber upper bushings? I am curious

my old steering was heims, but I feel a lot better with one-ton Moog TRE's. YMMV

To bring back up to date.
I ask the same question. Why does it need to be straight??

Because if the track bar has a bend in it and you use JJ's or heim joints it can flop from side to side, or rotate around. Of course, this depends on the plane of the bend. If there is a bushing at one end of the track bar, then it won't rotate, the bushing hold the bar in position.

I have a RE heavy duty track bar and bracket modified with the small joints at both ends. I still have a slight bend in the track bar. So far with 3,000 road miles and 3 offroad trips, everything has been great. Absolutly no isses or complaints with the the small joints at each end and the bent track bar. It does flop slightly but I do not feel it is an issue yet. I am keeping my eye on it though....

Bringing this thread back to life...I'm tired of constantly tightening up my RE superflex joint on my trackbar. It seems like every 3-6 months it needs to be tightened, and I've already replaced the bushing completely once over my 2-ish years of running it.

Any thoughts on a JJ or Heim vs. the RE Superflex joint? In terms of longevity and capabilities are concerned.

I wasn't a fan of the JJs that I ran on my trackbar and axle end UCA mounts (HP44 on 35s).

They always seemed to have too much slop in them for me. I could see the slop in the trackbar as someone turned the wheel. JJs have no way of adjusting preload either. A lot of people love them and swear by them however.

I'd go heims from Ruffstuff.

still using the same 3/4 heim that was in the wagoneers track bar on her rig.... its still tight, as far as the axle side look into delrin to replace the rubber crap. I had a local machinist mill me a bushing from delrin stock and a seamless billet sleeve for the center.

the rubber/poly isnt bad its just that the wear is greatly accelerated when the crappy rolled sleeve starts to spread

edit**** holy dead thread batman.... i didnt realize how old this was until i replied

im happy my with my 7/8" ruffstuff heims.

prior to running these with 5/8" bolts i had pretty consistent issues with sloppy joints and breaking the factory size bolts
