Two years ago I put in an 8.8. Two years later I have still not done anything about hooking the E-brake up. My Power steering hose took a shit on the trail yesterday so I am sure its drained and not working by now it was getting noisy and stiff by the time I made it home. Other than that all my shit works.

A/C, rear wiper. It had some electrical gremlins in it when I bought it. The problem was in the ignition switch, but the previous owner had wired around the some of the things that didn't work. The electrical radiator fan will come on when you turn on the defrost???? Still have not found where its wired wrong for that.

That sounds normal.

The electric fan comes on with the A/C compressor....and the A/C compressor kicks on when in defrost mode, too.

'96 Sport with approx. 202,000 miles.

Everything works.

(hint)
If something stops working, fix it.

I have a wife, two kids, and work full-time. With 4 XJ's its impossible to keep everything working!

-driver's rear window doesn't work anymore, need a new motor for it.
-passenger's front window is slow
-indicator on 4wd shift lever is stuck in 4L, but its pretty easy to tell what range I'm in
-rear washer piddles on hatch when driving and pees on traffic behind me when I try to wash rear window
-driver's rear door lock only unlocks when its good and damn ready
-steering components are still stock and need to be matched to lift height
-shocks are getting old (still original after 11 yrs and almost 150k miles)
-hatch struts try to decapitate me on cold days
-control arm bushings are all shot (except for the one I succeeded in replacing) and I lack the appropriate tools to swap the rest
-center console lid no longer holds on. tried to JB Weld it and it didn't work out so good.
-cupholders broke off, pieces o crap!
-the entire front clip doesn't work. One turn signal is held in by silicon, the other is broken in half and held in with duct tape. Multiple pieces of the grille are smashed thanks to various creosote bushes and greasewoods...
-oh, and one more that seems to be common round here...my cargo area dome lamp switch is dead. It comes on with the front doors but not with the hatch and I can't use the button anymore.

  • 4wd indicator -completely my fault, plugged two wires in without thinking, they were vacuum lines and some how it shorted out the light....
  • driver's side rear window and lock, won't do anything.
  • passneger side window needs some help going up and down
  • A/C
  • heat.....
  • cruise control

It's not a 96 thing. Just replace the switch!

All it does is disable the interior lights if the hatch is opened, so you don't drain your battery while loading or tailgating.

Mine was stuck too (they melt) and my interior lights would never go on with the hatch. Replaced the switch (use something capable of handling more amps) and it works as it should now :)
