What did you do to your XJ today

I've always been very happy with BFG A/T's. Not the most agressive tire in the world, but they do well for a tire that still has great road manners and treadwear. I'd like to try the Duratracs, but I want 32x11.50R15's for my next set of tires and don't think they come in that size? I'll probably just get BFG's again but maybe the KM2's next time...

I had Bfg alts before in 31-33 both drove forever but sucked donkey dong on wet grass snow and slick rocks I did more damage to my Bronco with those street treads then I ever have from the obstacles lol Big horns and Tsl are great for me. Planning on Duratreks for the next tires on our stocker.

I LOVED my Duratracs when I had my 31's... Bronzewyrm is running the 33" variety of them and appears to love them as well.
sure in deep snotty mud they dont do awesome, but on/in virtually anything else they're amazing.
Especially in the snow.... there's no other tire that will outperform them in my opinion.

Got these. Collapse:14.5" extended:24" travel:9.5" $30 for both. Figure I'd try them since they were cheap. If they work with my 2"-3.5" lift, ill get back to you guys as to what shock they are since if these work, that's some cheap shocks for a lifted jeep lol

If there's one thing I've learned over the years. Its that when it comes to shocks you get what you pay for.

But if you don't mind rattling your teeth out on potholed washboarded dirt roads, then I say go for it.

the same can be said about a poorly setup rear suspension, I run cheap rear shocks, I get props about the way my jeep "rides smooth" all the time. Trial and error will show you the way!
looks like a set of special shocks to me :D

I made a visit to Americas tire. it took some strong arming on my part, but I got that new Duratrac yesterday...

Were they out of stock?
Didnt have time to mount and balance?
What happened?

Well. after the opal lake trip, Tessa and Joshua noticed there was a nice slice in the sidewall of one of my tires. it was not bulging, or leaking air, but it looked nasty! located between the side lugs and the wheel bead. I don't know if you were there josh, but I was having flashbacks to when nick sliced a Kevlar. 2 big chunks of rubber missing and a good scar in the sidewall. I called Americas tire knowing they would not have my tire in stock and that I wanted it replaced. Well 1st I didn't get a return phone call about the tire shipping, after 3 days I called back to find out that it would be another 5 days because the tire was coming off of the east coast. well the tire finally showed up, they called, and i went in. The manager looked at the tire on my jeep and tried to convince me that it was cosmetic I did my best to explain just what my tires go through on a regular bassis and that I don't run a spare. having a warranty and no spare, I wanted the tire replaced. he told me that he would take it off of the rim and check it out and that we would go from there. I sat in the loby for an hr. then the jeep cam out. josh got in and the kid working on my jeep says "you all good to go" as I get in the jeep he says, "I don't know it they told you whats is going on or not" with a funny look on his face. he then says that the dismounted the tire preshurized it to 65psi and it dident leak. SO they PUT THE TIRE BACK ON!!!!!! OMG. I Began to drive home, as I was, I had a plan in my head to call the regional explain the situation, and that I would be back for my tire. Realizing I just had 2.5hrs of my time wasted for nothing, I decided to go back to the shop and rediscuss the situation with them. My warranty is a "no Questions Asked" warranty. so I explained that I was then one taking the risk by wheeling the tire, and the one way or the other that tire WILL get changed. It was going to be then and there or I was going to climb the ladder to get it taken care of. realizing that I had some ammo, and a STRONG situation to make a stink at his store. They decided that it would be a good idea to change my tire.

I am displeased as hell with these guys this time (there always Great to me) now I know. if I got to go in for tire work, make damn sure that the tire is leaking air.

And yes my warranty covers knife cuts :D, If they kept playing hard ball with me, I would have brought them 4 tires to replace.

its done now, just another learning experience

wow!!!
What an ordeal.
Yea I wasn't there John, didnt even know about it.... I remember you posting up something about needing/wanting a spare, but I thought that was just so you had one, and not that you needed a replacement.
Crazy stuff... makes me think twice about recommending people to an Americas tire now.

For the record.. If you have the Certifications, And If that tire had a cut all the way through, They would have replaced it no questions asked..

But They do NOT cover Knife cuts.. If you drive in there on 4 Inflated tires, then "Technically" they haven't failed yet. America's tire doesn't offer a Certification for Feel-good measure.. I dont know why you're mad? The Jeep dealership doesn't Warranty out Alternators that still work but look like they might fail.. They tell you to come back if it DOES fail..

What you are Expected to do is Carry a spare.. From Geo metro, to Peterbilt.. Everything should have a spare tire.

you make several points, I understand where you and the tire shop are/were coming from. Fact of the matter is that based on the way the damage looked, and its placement, combined with past experience on and off of the trail. The tire was good for no more that average street use or as a spare. Now, if he had treated me a little better from the get go, and offered it up, I would have bought the tire back as a spare. (my original secret plan) but after the whole ordeal I was just looking forward to getting down the road. OR if I had a 5th tire I would have just switched it out and moved on with out even calling them.

In my experience, keeping clients happy is more about the principle of how you conduct business, and how you treat people while you doing it. If you stick you your guns and don't take circumstances into account, you loose touch with what make a strong business in the first place. Lots of HAPPY CUSTOMERS:lickout:.

I know I Know, pictures pic's. :twak: had you seen it Scott, and were told its all good to go, you would have made the same case as I did. They may not cover knife cuts for you, but when I got mine, there were no conditions as to how the damage was acquired.:dunno:

Grabbing a spare is high on the list of to do's, 305/70/16's are harder to find for a decent deal and honestly I haven't had much time to do anything to the jeep. (it needs more than a spare)

Really its about how you treat people and how you stand up to your word.
In the end, I had to FORCE there hand at making things right in my eyes.
Always remember, The customer is ALWAYS right
