What did you do to your XJ today

Got my sliders installed and painted. I got them from lil bros fab who recently joined the board for $180. I'll post up my initial review when I get my computer working or use my gf's.

Tomorrow I'll try and figure out my sticking brake and my linkage issue. I doubt I'll figure out the linkage bit tho haha.

if its the driver side rear. just get use to it. the shoes draw hella moisture here in the NW. causing them to swell and stick very easaly. all 4 of the xj's ive had with rear drums have done this. the cure.... ceramic shoes, or disk break rear. other than that a good hard stop at 40mph or so will warm/dry them out.

nice progress man:cheers:

Thanks for the tip. I'll pick some up on the way home from work. :worship:

Came out good Aaron. Even though it's a Kevlar, I like it.

Moose what did you drive?

Sent from your subconscious without you knowing.....

I driving an 06 Avalon, I almost drove my XJ to school last night, I could have sailed right over that curb with that thing. Its still drivable just bent the radiator support pretty good on the bottom, which in turn pushed up the assembly that holds my hood latch. Now my hood sticks up like its not latched. What Im afraid of is that its putting pressure on my radiator with plastic tanks. The real bitch is last year some dumb ass ran me off the road in my 07 SI, yup hit a curb and destroyed the rack and pinion knuckel and variouse other parts, cost to my insurance was 14,000 so after I got it back I sold it. I think I am going to pull the front end apart and straigten the lower support then plate it for reinforcement. I can't really do anything else unless I want crazy high insurance rates, if only I would have had a witness to my last crash and burn, I would be okay. I wished I could just drive my XJ everyday. :soapbox:

The adjustment cable was ground to a pulp on one side, so I'll have to get a new one and put it in tomorrow.
There were all kinds of shavings from the wire getting pinched between the drum and shoe.
I also noticed this cylinder is leaky, but I guess I'll let it leak for a while..

Today, I put in new wheel cylinders on both sides and bled the brakes.

Well, I got the new cable.

The other side broke sometime in the past month, presumably from the newer stronger springs.
So now both drums have new adjustment cables (but the adjusters themselves are still 1987 OEM parts..)!
I really want to put disc brakes in the rear someday, so I`m trying not to spend too much on these drums.

ieee. when it comes to brakes. alwase do both sides at the same time. bite the bullet, make yourself do it. you will never regret it

And drums need all the help they can get... always replace the hardware with the shoes!

Thanks guys!
The kit I got from NAPA didn't include adjustment cables or adjustment hardware.
I had initially replaced the springs, pins, and pads in both drums.. ..but not the adjustment hardware.

The good news out of all of this, is that I'm very comfortable working on drum brakes now!
I put new cylinders in today, and that's how I found out about that broken cable.

The Jeep stops like a champ now!
I would like to get rid of my ABS pump sometime soon.. ..one project always leads to another!
