What components are in the 90 XJ ABS system?

Recently bought a 90 Cherokee Ltd (AWD), and after I purchased it I discovered a previous owner had removed the ABS system from it. I didn't spot it at the time, nor did the dealer (Kirkland Jeep, WA) when they did a pre-purchase inspection for me.

Anyway, I'd like to see if I can put the ABS back. I know the original ABS on the 90s was a POS, so if I do this I'd really like to do it with something more reliable - maybe from a later year.

So, when I go down to the breakers yard, what's my shopping list?

It seems that most everything ABS related has been taken of the jeep - all that's left on it are the wheel sensors as far as I can see without the FSM.

If anyone has a good diagram or parts list for the 90 ABS system, I'd be very grateful.

Cheers all!

The original system on that vintage used a boost pump in combination with an accumulator for power assist. That served to provide the pressure for ABS function but also was required for the base brakes to work properly. trying to integrate a later model ABS might be more work than its worth. If you still want to try, I have removed many of the ABS components from my 97 TJ, that are perfectly good, I just found them marginally effective on road and worthless if not dangerous off road.

Interesting - can you expand on "...if not dangerous..." - I'd love to hear a good reason not to have ABS (for my 17 year old son).
