I cannot remember the length but I believe they were 1/2" or the metric equivalent. Take a ruler, tape measure or a caliper and take a look at it. There is usually enough threads sticking out the measure and or to try a nut on it at the parts store... But yes i would use grade 8.
Not what you are asking about, but food for thought.
I learned the hard way that grade 5 must "not" be used for the center pin. (snapped the head off the bolt c clamp wasnt tight enough pack exploded on my finger.
I just spent some time looking into this for my upcoming spring replacement/possible lift... stock bolts are part number 3420 2118 (need 4), stock nuts are part number 1150 2814 (need 4, only 2 if you don't screw up the ones in the unibody rails at the front end of the springs). I don't know the part number for the bolt at the center of the spring pack unfortunately.
You can get them from stores.zmjeeps.com for a very reasonable price - or a few other sellers if you google a bit.
