I am doing some shopping for a new set of 33's...Tell me what tires you have and if you like them..also how much $$$ you spent is helpful..pics welcome!

Thanks!

The cheapest route besides used tires is to go with retreads.

www.high-tec-retreading.com

They have an XJ on the front page!

I have the LT235/85R16 AT-D on my K2500 Suburban... once they were balanced properly, I have had no problems with them. A friend of mine runs the 33x12.5R15 D-MUD on his modified '96 XJ. These are identical tread patterns to some of the Dunlop tires, the RV & Mud Rover, respectively.

Apparently they've also added quite a few tread variations since my purchase. The A/P model looks like the General Grabber A/P; the spacer tread variations are new, as well as their RV.

Dunlops all the way, if you dont want retreads they are the next best thing. kumho also has a cheap mt

I can also vouch for the Dunlops... I ran a set of the Radial Rover RV in 31x10.5 size on my XJ, moved them to my MJ, and then sold them to a Toyota guy. They got at least 60-70k miles in their lifetime, and were reasonably priced from www.Tirerack.com; by the time I added shipping & mounting charges, however, that savings was negligible. So now I mount my own and endorse the retreads mentioned above.

Best bang for your buck, Retreads!!
Hi tec is excelent quality for a retread, balance well. I have been nothing but happy with mine.

I have not heard one bad comment from anyone who has or has had a set from them.

Check out the prices once you have a selection made. Being your in Pa also check out BJ's Wholesale. Their prices on BFG's can't be beat. When I was there last week I noticed that the 31" at/ko's were $117 mounted/balanced/roadhazard/tax and your old tires. I did not look for anything bigger. Guy I was talking to last nite with a 2003TJ just bought 5 31" GY AT/S', $175 EACH from the local GY dealer, gawd, he was a bit miffed when I told him about bj's and their BFG's. They have the best prices I"ve seen yet on tires...Sams club comes close...

sams will probably be your best bet, i go through tirerack, but there is a warehouse here so shipping is free(pickup)

When I bought my BFG's, I went to the Sam's website and ordered them online and had them delivered to my local store. They were considerably cheaper than anywhere else and you could get a road hazard warranty and didn't have to pay shipping. You might want to check their site to see what brands thay have.

i find the best deal on tires to be used ones from someone who is going bigger. you can often pick up 70% tires for 70% off

OH yea, good suggestion, very true, check out www.bmja.org web site depending on where in PA you live, alot of owners go up and tires are available there almost all the time. The club is located in Reading Pa but the members are spread out all over 3 states, nj, pa, de, from the nj line to ohio and a couple of members up in ny state. Just be sure to eyeball them before buying.

For you guys that are running the retreads, how do they do when aired down to about 10 psi? I'm thinking of getting some but I'm concerned that they might come apart if I run them aired down a lot.
What do ya think?
Thanks,
Chad

Retreads cant seperate from the orginal rubber because of the bonding process.

The stuff that looks like just treads beside highways is the entire tread area all the way to the inside of the tire, not seperated retreads.

Good point. I like looking on Pirate4x4.com for tires, axles, etc at some good prices. 37's are such the rage that you can get 31-35's pretty cheap. Many of the people I see that sell stuff are in NorCal around the Pirate's hive, the Con. :) Sam's club has bfg at's, Dunlop mt's, and Mtrs that I have been able to determine. They told me they couldn't mount my 35" tires on my 8" rims though because of their policy which sucks.

I run my re-treads down at 10-15 psi any time I am on the trail. They work very well.

running low pressure on the street will do much more damage and will damage from the inside (damage the inside carcas), not the issue of seperating treads from the carcas.

bought khumo road venture M/T's from tirerack.com about a month ago for 86 ea. (31x10.50x15) Love em...went anywhere my buddy w/ BFG M/T's went.

Costco has good prices on BFG as well. May run into some mounting problems. They said they couldn't put 31's on my Dad's XJ cause the book said they wouldn't fit. They put them one no questions after they saw the Jeep.
