What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

I've been making my heep a little more old guy friendly. First I added the strut kit sold by a vender on here(pulled off the old sound deadening on the hood that had adsorbed a few gallons of oil), it works nice.

Added a late model console, gotta have those cup holders for my latte, and made a platform so I can sleep in the jeep when my wife kicks me out of the house.

Rewired a bunch of stuff, installed the gauge, and the switch, and a light to remind this old guy that he turned on the air compressor.

Neatened up the air compressor installation, added a relay and a fuse, added a fuse block where I can see it, rather than under the dash, relayed the fuse block from an ignition on source, and put in a hearing aid so I could hear my old tunes. I still need to wire the door speakers from the amp, when I'll also put new power lock activators, so my remote works. Old guys like to push buttons.

:skull2: Stink bug deleted. Placed a torpedo level on XJs door sill, and dang if the bubble isn't just a wee bit aft into hairline. Anybody wanting a 1998 vintage matched set of BS snubbers, will be given free to better XJ wheel wells.

Ok........ whut?

Oh stewardess, I took ebonics, he said: I have nearly leveled my jeep, I confirmed this with a level on the door sill. Therefore I no longer need my factory bump stops so I will give them away which will help someone keep their wheels in their wheel wells.

I'm still trying to figure out how bump stops have anything to do with ride height...... :dunno:

So question, I know I don't post a whole lot in here. But I'm in the middle of a motor swap in my XJ and MJ. The motor in the XJ is going into the MJ. Problem is, the MJ has an AX15, the XJ has a 4.6 stroker. What pilot bearing is needed? I know there's two different sizes, I don't know which size I've got. I know, I know. But I could buy both pilot bearing and I wouldn't have to worry about it when I do the full swap.

Maybe yellaheep(Troy) can tell me what year the AX15 is out of?

Thanks for the help guys.

Bigger question is..... is the stroker a Renix engine? AND.... did it come out of an automatic? A Renix crank originally mated with an auto trans will NOT have the hole in the end for a pilot bearing. If your XJ is currently a manual trans, then you should be just fine.

The AX15 in your MJ was out of an '06 TJ IIRC, but all later model AX15's used the bigger pilot bearing. I believe that is a 3/4" stub on the front of the late model, and something like 5/8" on the earlier.

The block is out of a 96 something, XJ or TJ, not sure. The crank is an early 80's CJ, 4.2L, it does have the hole in the end of the crank for the pilot bearing.

Glad you could remember what it came out of. I wish I would've copied that build sheet on it.. Owell. Thanks Troy!

Gawd...... That was my bad. Of course the stroker won't have the Renix crank in it anyway..... :twak:

I can PM you the specs on the MJ.....

Bumps stops have nothing to do with ride height, but spacers over the coil do. Stewerdii give Matt another blankeii for passing Ebonics 103. My BS are free to any of youzz who wants them.:)

I'll throw out that my Renix crank had a bushing substituted for the pilot bearing when a 95 AX-15 replaced the 90 AX-15.

Finally got around to replacing that worn out, AutoStoned unit bearing. It lasted for seven or eight years, I think I got my money's worth.

And I tightened the battery clamps... :gee:

I'm thinking about the car wash or just or breaking out the shop vac to clean the inside out after the float trip on the green river in Utah.

Finally had my rear gears replaced. They have been howling for a couple of years but never showed any serious wear. Discovered I had a bearing going bad also. Complete rebuild and now it is so quiet! It is amazing how a gradually worsening problem doesn't seem that bad until it is fixed!
