What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

1.75 would be more than ok, if you want to be all baller about it just use chromoly tubing instead of that poor man DOM crap.

Its all about being Bro cool. Bro cool is all about oversized KOH ready oversized roll cages and stuff.

I think 1.75 would be okay, but hey who couldn't use an extra 1/4" when it comes to size.

Speak for yourself :wierd:

PS, use centimeters, everything sounds so much bigger that way.

I'm about to add a couple of 10W LED spots as daytime running lights off of whatever ignition hot wire is handy. I have a couple of bigger ones I'm going to install in the bumper, they have their own harness. I'm going to leave my halogen lights for the moment, anyway. Check Amazon for LED's, forget the parts places, they charge a premium.

I already have the lights. Just deciding if the pods in factory fog location would look better or worse than above the plate. (On the Titan)

I would put in factory location. Finished fenders today and tracked down a 32 spline 1310 yoke for the front of my 4 speed so I can run a driveshaft.

Looks like I might get to wheel this weekend!

1.75 .120 HREW hed up to my 5600lb XJ rolling onto the roof at the corner of halo then onto the side of the jeep and sliding down cleveland rock after my shifter got stuck and I had to let it go over , So I'm pretty certain it would work for a much lighter TJ . HEAT TREATED chromo would be better dent resistence at same wall thickness since it's harder material , and DOM is just a waste of CASH over HREW in this application . And YES DOM HAS A SEAM just like HREW but it's not clearly visible like HREW . DOM is a bit stronger due to tighter tolerances ,but like I said it holds 5600lbs .

I have built 4 or 5 cage out of 1.5" .120 DOM and HREW, and I have built one out of 1.75 at work and I much prefer working with 1.75 as weird as that is.

I am not worried about strength in any manor because the design will bring the strength and not the material and I view everything on this jeep as disposable and rebuild able.

1.75 as soon as I can buy a die which will probably be years down the road at this point LOL

You obviously missed the sarcasm of my post, I would never advocate Chromo tubing on anything outside of a full fledged comp buggy.

And for your information the curb weight of a 4wd XJ is anywhere between 3,057-3,386lbs depending on options. The curb weight of a TJ is 3,082-3,832lbs depending on options. There is nothing lighter about the TJ, in fact fully loaded vs fully loaded and the TJ is almost 500lbs heavier. That full frame and thick tub make for a lot of weight, hence why so many vehicles are unibody.

You've got the loaded up Safari man, that thing is a pig. :D

I'm sure the 3800lbs TJ is the Rubicon, but a fully loaded TJ with a hard top still weighs more than a fully loaded XJ. That was the "beauty" of the unibody SUV concept that Jeep basically invented with the XJ.

oooohhhkay. So got em installed. I went with the factory location. I am stoked about the difference. Nissan lighting was good form factory but the led is so much cleaner. Thanks to local vendor Olympus offroad.

MJs are somewhat lighter than XJs iirc, my pile weighs 3800 even with two really heavy 1/4 plate bumpers, retread 33s, steel wheels, a 1/4 plate crossmember, and an xrc8 added.

The bumpers are about 5 feet of 2x6 1/4 wall plus 1" plate and 1/4 plate for mounting brackets, each, and the crossmember is around 2 feet of the same but with only 1/4 plate added.

Not counting the rust lightening :laugh2:

Well picked up sisters new ride today. red 99 auto and just had the trans gone through with receipts and warranty. Has ugly running boards and brush guard but she might wanna keep em.

Braved the cold and installed Iron Man LCA's and TB in preparation for the move back. I was hoping it would fix my steering woes but no such luck. Looks like ball joints are next on the list. After that I just need to do the steering box (Durango) and the whole front end will be redone. Then the fun of lifting it will begin.:D
