What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

I like your idea, Doug... is that 1x3 1/4" tube? As soon as my plasma arrives I may have to copy your design. Thank you.

Had a busy week. Got my 97 lifted, 33's on and atlas installed. Few little things to finish up but she sure rides nice.

Time to upgrade the transmission. Installing the Transgo 340-HD2 kit.

To be accurate, the Jeep Dealer is going to install as they gave me the best quote on the work. They even suggested that I buy the kit so that they would not have to mark it up...

Now, the decision has to be made on what mode to lock the transmission into. Street, strip or Off Road. All three settings give you a 1st gear lock in the 1/2 position.

Who would have thought the Dealer would be the least expensive way to go...

Doing a full fluid flush as well.

One of the OEM injectors was leaking in the bitter cold. New seals and Yellow Tops are in. :)

I finished up my front bumper, swapped out my 5.5" deavers for some 4.5" coils i had lying around, threw a used pair of 14" bilstiens in the front, installed longer ss brake lines, and put a crane cover on my 44 last week and went on the woods run with the rock addicts. There were a few ultra 4 buggies and about 15-20 other vehicles ranging from stock to well built rigs on 40s. Had a huge bonfire and lots of burgers and hot dogs got cooked! I didnt get a ton of pics but heres a couple...(thats only about 1/2 of the rigs that showed up in the last pic)

I hate squealing bearings........ I just wasted a full day.

Something at the front of the engine in my MJ is making hideous noises.

I removed the belt and the noise wasn't there. Without belt tension, all rotating parts spin freely and make no noise. So....

-Thought for sure it was the alternator. I swapped in another alternator........nope.
-I replaced the water pump with a new one as its bearing felt a little grindey and had some play.........nope.
-I replaced the idler pulley......nope.
-The A/C and P/S are quiet.

All that's left is that bearing that's pressed into the alt/AC bracket that the fan spins on.....

Anyone ever replaced one of those? Can they be replaced?

It is a pain in the ass and some years aren't available... forget which. Check oem tech. That part sucks and is like 300 bucks from the dealer. I am hoping some enterprising soul makes a replacement unit with serviceable bearings for less than that next time I need to screw with it.

Does anyone have a Service Manual for an 89'? It appears that all of the hosted ones that were posted have been taken down. Digital or Paperback, doesn't matter. I just need to verify an AW4 wiring schematic.

Thanks in advance,
Jim

Changed the oil and filters out on both the engine and the transmission, I also change out the diff fluids and installed some new to me Riddler Diff covers. Tomorrow I'm going to tackle my front axle sleeves.

did a compression test, changed the oil, changed the diff fluid and generally looked over my sister-in-law's new-to-her 02 Liberty Limited. It was nice to wrench a little...

Then I went back to work on the house pulling 150 feet of wire to the out-buildings through conduit to try and get some heat to the greenhouse. My arms hurt.

tore into a trans for the first time ever. Apparently when reinstalling everything, the severe, unloaded angle of the transmission (ba10) caused the reverse gear and shifter to fall out preventing the trans form being able to shit. so had to tear the tcase off and into the trans to realign everything. While everything inside looked good, I couldn't believe how crappy and flimsy everything was in there. Cant wait to not have that trans in there anymore. With huge help from flores and some laughs from led I actually swapped a motor in and it runs, and runs damn good at that. Just in time for them to need it for snow, and me to go back to work. yay.

Damn those are some pretty welds........

I dig those mini-boatsides...... but I'm still skeptical about a solid hit below the door and it not bending enough to make using the door difficult.... if not wedging it closed...

With all the gusseting going on inside these i honestly don't think that will be a problem, also i feel that fully welding them to the rocker helps strengthen everything, but i guess time will tell! They form a c channel around the frame rail from spring hanger to the crossmember, and then the triangle gussets go from the framerail out to the pinch seam and almost up to the floor.

After seeing them in person they are pure beef, and josh is great so i decided to give them a try and support his product. I should have the other one on before the end of the week and my jeep will be at toys for tots on sat. if anyone wants a closer look at them.
