What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

I didnt think about a frontal impact. So if I take the doors off at the trail head you cant think of any negative things besides keeping body in the car?

Dutch, thats why I have a cage...

If Jeep wanted the doors on the XJ removable they would have designed them more like the CJ, YJ, TJ doors.

The driver should not need to be looking out the door, he should trust his spotter.

Besides, who would want to remove the doors on a station wagon??? That's just silly.

That LJ is nothing more than a station wagon...... with a removeable top and doors...... :moon:

And I'm sure you do NOT want me to post the crash test vid for the Wranglers........ :shhh:

The driver should not need to be looking out the door, he should trust his spotter.
Spotter? Its liberty, just drive it.

But down is scary. I would rather go up patriot then down Bunker Hill... lol. I think we are just gunna play it by ear and see what happens.
Up bunker hill is not an easy accomplishment. I havent seen the condition of it lately but last we were down there it was a bit ugly. Down is not scary, just follow the lines. You are low and wide so just go slow and let gravity do the work. It isnt bad at all.

My dad is scared from our trip from penrose on 33s. in the mud. when the steering box and pump went out. and the clutch. and the driveshaft. and we were to be in moab 4 days later.

We will see what happens and take lots of pictures

33's in penrose is a task in itself. Very doable. But it beats the piss out of your rig. You dont notice even half as many rock grabbing diffs or steering on 35's. It does truely make that much of a difference.

Yep last time we did it it wasnt bad. this time it will be perfect with the new front bumper, 4-1, and the new flat belly.
I am so pumped

On Wednesday I had to try out my new truesite welding helmet I got for my birthday so I made a skid plate and installed it. Since I have no time this weekend due to my girlfriends graduation I decided I should start a big project before next weekend when I leave for Penrose.

First I performed the ultra hard cut cut cut and fold method.

And then I decided to match my front fenders I should put a tube flare in the back.

So I need to install and paint the passanger side, do the entire driver side, do both front A pillars through the fender, and finish the front tube fenders. I am an idiot for the times I decide to start projects.

I finished my bootyfab case spreader, wrassled the carrier out of my D-44...WTH??? Do ya suppose there are shims in there?

Yep, D44 carrier bearing are under the bearing on the carrrier itself. What you're looking at is excess RTV from multiple cover replacements.

That's not from cover replacements, since it is around the axle tube... but the shims are definitely under the carrier bearing.

Whoever RTVd the axle tubes meant it. The whole time I was fighting to get the carrier out, it was glued in. :smsoap:

I think it has around 140K, smooth as a babies arse:
