What are you doing to your rig - the continuing saga

IMG_0182_zps9cb8a273.jpg.html
stuff at work--
i did this to remove the unit bearing--
the wrench protects the bolt head from becoming distorted.
and use my air hammer with a hammer bit to drive the bearing out by apply the hammer on each bolt until it was free.
this might work too with a cave man old style hammer.

i am having pic posting issues....someone please repost for me

thanks

you make me lol at your posts, i remember when i was there..i used to have a bolt and socket i used specifically for that

LOL not sure if everyone is hip to getting those blasted things out with out causing undue damage.
tell ya what , an air hammer and hammer bit make short work of tie rod ends and stuff like that. the vibration makes anything break loose.well almost anything. and i hate the picklefork.....

and i have posted pics before and now cant seem to figure it out lmao.
thanks Fred :)

Hell with that... I put the castle nut back on a turn or two (so the tie rod doesn't just fall out when it pops loose) and then whack the knuckle right where the taper goes through it with my 4 pounder. After 3-4 hits the TRE usually pops right out.

Like so:

nice hammer
seriously, the same idea but with the rapid hits and vibration of an air hammer will pop any ball joint or tie rod end. and i try to not do any manual wrenching if i can avoid it. my hands and arms have a certain amount of wrenching left in them LOL
on any of them, put the impact on the thinner part and pull the trigger --use gloves and both hands so ya dont mangle the threads or bend the blasted thing.
i was happy to see this work for the unit bearing to drive it out without beating the crap out of it.and MUCH faster.hasta

WJ decided not to start again, this time at the gas station on the way into work this AM... appears to be yet ANOTHER short near the battery, as I managed to jump it when I moved the jumper cables to the battery cables. I swear, if its electrical and on a WJ, it will fail, and then fail again. Maybe I'll throw new cables on it this time around, and I'll have to make the time since this one affects my ability to dd it. :(

Just put the new 4.10's in and got the new front end in. ARB rear and OX front... Routing the OX is going to be interesting to say the least. The old shocks are limiting flex my an inch or two in the front, but i cant complain. Sway bar disconnects set up with an ingenious sway bar retaining system (hole in the skid plate to fold up the disconnected sway bar and pin it up through the plate)... Over all everything is going good.

It was haha! But since then i found a pair or temporary wheels to throw on till i get some good ones, got a pair of used corbeau baja seats, took off all the flares/fender liners/running boards/carpet, unwired the non-functioning alarm system, welded up the broken exhaust, trimmed the front fenders and bumper, got a rear bumper for free and bolted that on, and sold the hard top. I also picked up a hp kingpin dana 60 yesterday!

I got a bunch o crap done on the boostwerks rig recently, but I'm still having TC woes. The bearing noise and boiling fluid leads me to think the pumps shot. I can't wait to actually do some trails this year!

New drop out center for the cross member:

New year calls for a new heim...

ARB junk located...

Novak shifter...

Got the dual batteries and intake installed. So far everything seems to work, suppose I will find out this weekend. Went with the platinum and a red top, think they will be a suitable couple. Once I have more time I will go thru and organize the rat nest of wires but for now it drives and wheels so good enough for me.

Btw- no comments on the battery tray/hold down. A few pbr's and metal scraps= free and a good time

Is the Die Hard an AGM battery as well? If not you'll need something different. You're not supposed to mix AGM and lead-acid batteries in a system like that.
