Well... That could have gone worse.

So, This is my sisters Jeep. Bought it in Idaho Springs 2-3 years ago. Its been all over the US with her. Spent a year in Texas and back to Colorado for 6 months, then out to OKC where she currently lives. She bought a friend of mines Toyota Corolla that I was going to bring out Thursday, then drive her Jeep back and sell it In Colorado. Told her to take it to a shop because the brakes were acting up. They replaced the rear wheel cylinders, which caused a leak in some brake line from the Master to the ABS motor, which that line is no longer made. She drove home like this (BAD IDEA) and uuhh this is what happened...

Needless to say, I flew to OKC, now looking on Craigslist for a Car. Hoping to fly back to Colorado Tomorrow.

I pity the shop that sent a customer off with a defective brake line that caused a fire.:flame:

Already called him. They said "I told her not to drive it"

If I were the shop, I'd sure be hoping I had that in writing...

Exactly. if its not written release then shop is still sol. had that issue at big o. state said still their responsibility.

Wow. That certainly sucks Jeremy and glad no one got hurt.

But yeah, 2 bad decisions made there....... by the shop for letting anyone drive a defective vehicle away..... and by your sis for driving it.

Must not have been a real professional shop...... Not exactly making sense how replacing the rear cylinders could cause the failure of a brake line that far away from the repair site. And...... just because a replacement brake line is no longer available doesn't mean it couldn't be made. IIRC, all the lines between the master and ABS unit are hard lines. Easily duplicated.

I wonder if she'll get stuck with a bill for the emergency response?

That will buff out..... Ok.... Maybe not. If I were you, I'd be having words with that shop. Loud words.

If I had a dollar for every bonehead mistake I've fixed on friends cars caused by some Backdoor mechanic... My current favorite is the stripped oil plug JB welded and duct taped...

Ugh, the Bendix-9 ABS. I'm glad she's OK.

Ended up getting a 99 Honda Civic EX. 135k miles. Should do the job for her over the next few years.

The craigslist market here is Terrible. All these small private dealers claiming to be the owners of the car. Most cars are rebuilt titles. Crazy!
