Well, I'm going to jail for 3 years.....

Yep. It's official, I'm being transferred to the Jail. And I ain't excited about it. :thumbdn:

My last day in Patrol was Thursday. I had a great time the past 9 years on the road, 3 of which were as a Sergeant. But, when I took my stripes, I knew assignment rotations were mandatory every 3 years...... can't bitch too much.

So Tuesday, I'm off to start my new assignment as the supervisor of a bunch of adult daycare providers. Good team of guys -that's a plus, but being stuck inside is gonna take some getting used to again. I did 6 years in the Jail when I first got hired. I didn't really expect to ever go back.

But there's always a bright side to everything right? I suppose the fact that I will only be working three 12hr shifts per week with a make-up day once a month isn't too bad. And my work days are Tues, Wed, Thurs so I have 4 day weekends..... Won't have too many excuses to NOT 'wheel on the weekends right?

Guess I'll have to get used to being called "bossman", "turn key" or "guard" all over again...... I'm gonna miss being called "a_ _hole", "c_ _ k sucker" and "mother f_ _ ker"......... although Led will probably be more than happy to fill that void.....:D

Fixed.
I'm going to hold you to that.:D

So I don't want to meet you in your professional capacity...NO PROBLEM! LOL

I'll bet your "clients" say that also..."No wheelin for them today!" So if you show them pics of you wheelin, is that positive reinforcement, or cruel and unusual punnishment? LOL

Good luck with the new post!

I thought you were going behind bars and being locked up. Glad that's not the case. I thought you were handling it pretty well and were not ashmed of it! :laugh3:

You can still wheel right? It's not like you are going to Iraq for a tour of duty and who knows when you'll be back. :)

Inside work isn't too bad, I'm an Accountant and that's all I know. I take a mile walk 2 times a day to get out a little. Hang in there!

Troy, Dad was a Sergeant with the Riverside County Sheriffs Dept, and he was graveyard shift jailer/supervisor for 11 of his 20 years on the force. He has plenty of stories to tell.

I'm jealous.......I'd love to work 3 12's per week and have all those long weekends.

I wouldn't feel too bad for him.

Here's where he gets "locked up." :

it's not all it's cracked up to be man. To be fair I work a 3 day then a 4 to balance, but when you're working it's like you get up, go right to work, go home, go right to bed, repeat. Everything gets put on hold while you're working.... By the end of a stressfull week I don't feel like doing anything

You should try 5 12's with a couple of 14's thrown in for fun. I would kill to work 3 12's.

How bout 2 days off since Christmas, and the most time I have had off between trips is 22 hrs.........weekends what are those.

Is that place right off I25? If it's any consolation...it looks like a beautiful building, architecturally speaking. It'll be over before you know it Troy.

Heh heh, thanks for the sentiments guys! Yeah, it isn't tough duty by any means.

phillip-g hit the nail on the head though. For 3 days, you're working or your sleeping. Then, especially where graveyard shifts are concerned, that day after your last work day is wasted on sleeping. For us Sgt's, we have to come to work at least 30 min before shift to do schedules and whatnot, then stay after until all other duties are accounted for - minimum of another 30 minutes, so my days will be 13 hrs at a minimum, plus another hour for the drive round trip. Which leaves 8 hrs at home for sleeping and anything that needs to be done.

RTicUL8 - The first two pictures are correct, that's the jail, the other two are of the courthouse, or commonly referred to as the "Tajma Hall"..... I don't get to work there. Yeah, the jail may not look bad on the outside, but those who've worked in one know the smell. 1,700 humans in a concrete building... most with very poor hygene habits.... gag. Laundry day is the worst.... don't get me started on the airborn diseases like Tuberculosis, colds, flu, pneumonia......

I just consider myself a road cop. I'm at home there. I've had lots of success both personally and professionally in that realm. Going to the Jail, well, it's just something that will require LOTS of personal motivation just to go to work each day ya dig?

But hey, thanks for listening to me vent. It all pays the same right? I'll get over it once the weather gets warmer and I can focus on wrenchin' and wheelin'.

Nah Chris, the other highway.... just west of I-70 and 6th Ave. Yeah, the "Taj" is an impressive building.... cost many of us our well deserved raises for a couple of years... but that's an issue best left burried..... :D

LOL yeah, I did the thread title like that just to stir things up. :D

As far as Iraq goes..... If I weren't married, a bit younger, and had better knees, I'd go. I seriously entertained taking one of those 2 year jobs over there as an instructor in the police academies - big tax-free money, but not alot of perks for those 2 years. I'd rather work with a unit.

Richard,
Yeah, I spoke for a little while with your dad at a Colorado event a few years back - I think it was the night after the "almost" flop you drove out of on Iron Chest. He was fortunate to work during an era where a jail was a jail and frivolous lawsuits weren't the norm. Back when pinheads in jail learned a true form of discipline..... and those that just wanted to do their time did just that. He did have some good stories.

Not today's jail. I will be working at Jeffco's version of Club Med where we ask the inmates "how can I serve you"...... there's a very good reason why our jail population average has increased enormously over the years.... and it ain't just because of residential population growth.... it's because jail is now just an un-paid vacation with free medical and dental..... oh well.

Hey, I work 11 days in a row, 8-10 hours per shift, with one 13 hour shift, and get off 3 days every other weekend. Working 3 12's and then being off 4 days would be a piece of cake.

It's a bitch when your buds go wheeling on your weekend to work............
