I talked to Ronnie (a buddy of mine) and he has graciously extended us his knowledge and shop use for a 2-3 hour class on how to weld with flux core, MIG and stick as well as proper use of a cutting torch.
Ronnie has plenty of scrap, but we will be using his rods, his wire, his gas ... and his time, so I am instituting a $10 per person class cost ... this will also cover the cost of burgers at the conclusion of our class.
Ronnie is a professional welder and has been for 30+ years. He builds heavy duty trailers and truck beds for the oil and gas industry. He was also welded on oil rigs and rock processing equipment.
As we have a bunch of members that work on Saturdays, the class is being held on Sunday, June 22nd from 2pm to 5pm. Ronnie's shop is in Decatur, TX just off of Hwy 380 and Hwy 199 (for mapping purposes).
Everyone will have an opportunity to try their hand at welding all 3 forms, plus use a cutting torch. There is not a set plan on material to be covered ... Ronnie will start where he thinks we should, and move as he feels we need to.
THERE IS NO ALCOHOL !!!
So:
June 22nd
2pm - 5pm
$10
Attire:
You can be brave and wear shorts and a tshirt if you'd like (I normally do) and odds are, your legs will get burned (mine always do). I'd suggest jeans and a t-shirt. Note ... cotton BURNS. Gloves will be provided as will helmets\masks. i would recommend that you buy one at tractor supply though so you can "watch" what Ronnie and others are doing right and wrong. A basic mask (or goggles) should run you around $20 ... or more if you want to be a big spender.
For obvious reasons, we simply can't house everyone ... but 10-15 people should be easily accomodated. So, this will be the official sign-up sheet ...
