We got 1st place in class in 24 Hrs of LeMons road race in an XJ

In my garage I actually have a '22 Model T Speedster, Frontenac OHV, Warford 3-spd, Winfield carb, etc.

You would get along great with my father in law. He has a 29 Model A roadster pickup, with a Riley 4-port conversion and dual strombergs, backed by a T-5 transmission. I think his old 3speed with the overdrive was more cool, but he got tired of blowing the transmissions when he raced the hillclimbs with it.

That is awesome! I'm glad someone on NAXJA is representing the XJ out there. Its cool that its positive towards XJs as opposed to "lets find the least competitive car around". Its even cooler that you guys owned your class. You must have beat some people is the other classes to come in that high correct? I bet they felt bad!

It's hard to describe how much fun it is. I drove for two hours on Sat and two hours on Sunday in a decently handling car on a road course with other cars near or at the limit of what the car could do. Add to that what it meant to be in a Jeep running right with most of the cars on the track.

We were in class C, which should be the slowest class of cars, and there were less than 40 out of 173 cars in class C. Finishing 32nd we beat a lot of class A and B cars........in a Jeep. :D

Fun stuff. It was also a lot of fun talking to other racers in the pits, everyone had a good time.

It still amazes me how flat that Jeep corners compared to the cars it has raced against, especially for how stock it actually still is!

When I replaced my stock P215 GY GSA's that came on my 98 with Pirelli 235 scorpions I could not believe the difference in handling. Roads I could only corner on at 35-40 I could now take at 60 even when they were wet. I think it's all that weight down low from the axles. I have always loved the way the XJ handles, even better than my wifes ZJ or our TJ's, those have too much body roll.

Oh, I know Rich. Dad and I have both had people in what should be much better handling cars get in serious trouble when they've followed our XJ's into curves. I kinda figured the BMW's would have been as flat as that Jeep through the corners though.

Here's a kinda scary video of Richard spinning the XJ and nearly collecting a couple cars behind us:

Clicky.

OOPS, good save though:laugh3:

Yea, that's why all four XJ's and the one ZJ all had 242's under them.
Screw that. I'll take contollable oversteer over terminal understeer all day long and twice on Sunday. People have always asked me why I didn't use a 4WD XJ...95% of the time RWD is going to be lighter, better behaved and faster, not to mention more reliable.

This, BTW, coming from a life-long Subaru owner (2x Legacy Turbo, WRX, STi, SVX, etc).

Hey, we were supposed to be having fun.

:D

Fun? How much fun was it for the other drivers just missing your passenger side and locking it up as you are looking down for your shifter nob?
