Wanted to see if there is any interest...

What motels do people use, their website says they list some, but it's not there.
Some of us don't want to sleep in our jeeps :)

Borrego Spr. is probably the closest... I think there are a few nice places there... 20 to 25 mins. away...
Then it's probably Indio... 45 min. away...

I think there might be one or two in the communities, but I don't know that I'd trust them...

Just got the email.

http://www.tds4x4.com/

The Tierra Del Sol Four Wheel Drive Club of San Diego would like to announce the online registration 47th Annual Desert Safari.

Please feel free to stop by the website and sign up for this great family event.

T-shirt sales will be available for pre-order in the next day or two, we are just trying to provide you with pictures of all the color and style choices.

If you have any questions about registration or the event in general please let us know by emailing [email protected] and we will get back to you just as soon as we can.

Also, if you prefer the snail mail registration route you can download that packet from the website as well and send in your registration.

We just started placing a few photos of the trails that we will be traversing so you can get a preview of a few spots of the trail ahead of time. Check back frequently to get the latest information.

Whether you register online or via mail, I would like to take the time to remind everyone that this is a fund raising event to help the fight in keeping our trails open so our children can have the same enjoyment of the sport that we do. During registration there is the option to help us with this effort as well as your event registration.

Thank you for your interest and effort to help save our trails.

I will be out there, but thinking I will be camping at truckhaven NOT OW! OW is not at all my cup o tea.

Scott you and the crew in again this year?

OK, now the site is updated and working. Motel info is there.

FYI TO ALL! TDS is moving back to within easy 10min drive cross country, of the original truckhaven main base camp. Its said with in 1/2 mile of the TH old base camp!

Phew MUCH better! OW is crap I think and the sand was horrible. Now main camp will be close enough to still camp where I like (and so many others) and go in to main base camp at will..

I'll be there with the RV.
Who will let me camp near them?
;)

I will be there with the moble bar on wheels. Look for the Weekend Warrior.:D There should not be any of those out there. I have a couple of groups I am supposed to meat up with and do not want to hurt anyones feelings. So I am playing by ear to see where I am going to camp.

Rumor has it (Rumor being from Roger Mullins from JustRuns) that TDS got denied permission to actually have the event IN Truckhaven. Supposedly the TDS Headquarters will be (on private land?) in Truckhaven, but the runs will be in Ocotillo Wells??? I don't see anything about that on TDS's website yet, but that's where Roger said he saw it.

Anyone else know what's really going on with it? I was just out in Truckhaven this weekend with some other non-NAXJA folk...

Last I read from a posting from a very active TDS club member is that it will be in the north most part of OW this year, and that the run will actually be in that same area of OW. There are actual pictures posted on thier site I believe, of some of the run areas for this year.

I dont know how many know the recent history of this event... But... TDS was held in Truckhaven for a thousand years, ok almost, up till 07 when they were held off the land due to some land being changed in not so much ownership but with who is in control of it. Till this report or that survey was completed. It was a bunch of Bull crap!~ I have paid in to TDS club myself about 80-100$ per year in enrolment fee's for desert safari, as well as t-shirts and food etc. And they have I beleive over 1000 entries each year as well as getting huge bottle pass donations on sat night. So, even with about 80,000-100,000$ per year in funds they we not able to continue to use the truckhaven location and licked where the sun dont shine and bowed out to OW.... I even offered free services to them from california's leading and most recognized complex litigation firm. They never even called me back. So in my mind, and needless to say, I think they are not all that into, the offroad activist and preservation, but more in it for thier own objectives, which yes may bo to donate $ to others and hope they can fight for what is right. But I will continue to go each and every year just for the company that I get to hang with out there and the terrain of Truckhaven....

FROM OTHER FORUM....

[br]Well, we went out this New Years and worked on a new trail for Safari.
Unfortunately we will not be able to have the Headquarters or trail itself
in the traditional area of Truckhaven. The state budget fiasco has held
up the trail permit and we're running out of time, plus the Imperial County
Board of Supervisors told us we couldn't use the private property we had
leased because it's zoned "residential" and we couldn't get a variance
through fast enough. The new headquarters is NOT, repeat NOT
at "Main Street" in Ocotillo Wells, it's at the extreme north side of Ocotillo
Wells SVRA just south of S-22. It's about 1/2 mile south of the old headquarters
site at Truckhaven. The trail is also in the extreme north of the SVRA and
the terrain is just like Truckhaven. The first pic is of the headquarters
location and then one of the old headquarters compared to the new one.
Also, for those that like to go and play in the notches just north of the old
headquarters site, there are a couple of notches just like that about 1/2 mile
southeast of the new headquarters, and they're "virgin". LOTS of new stuff
to break in.

THEN WENT ON TO POST MAIN CAMP COORD. N 33 15.691 W 116 00.857

This year's location is much much much better than Main St. in OW.
Although I do not intend to line up for any of the runs, I plan on spending the
weekend in Truckhaven.
