WANTED: someone to help me install stuff

I am also in Columbia, SC. I haven't really messed with any electrics, but I have installed plenty of bumpers and side steps. I used to go to UNCC, and need to come visit a couple of friends anyways, so, maybe I can plan a weekend trip and help you out while I am there. What all are you looking to get done to the XJ?

LOL! Great minds think alike. Not being rude NCCherokeeGirl, but I agree. If you have major visual issues, an off-roading hobby may not be the best idea.

Actually, if she is able to drive a motorized vehicle on a road, I wouldn't see why she couldn't wheel. Most wheeling is done at a much slower speeds than you travel on paved roads. Besides, if she has a good spotter, they could guide her through the technical parts of the trail.

I think they are referring to the whole lack of depth perception thing. If you don't understand their concern, get into the rocks or climb some ledges.

She just got finished saying she could not drive on the highway. How in the world could you see enough to wheel?

Let me ask you this, how does she have a license then? According to several people (who don't know any more than what she has said on the forum), her vision would be so poor she shouldn't be driving at all. She has a license to drive on the highway but prefers to not drive on the interstate. That is the way I read it. You know how poorly people drive at 65 plus MPH. At 2-10 MPH you have a lot more time to react and position yourself for what is coming up on the trail.

I'm sure I'm the Lone Ranger on this issue but I'd give her a chance to wheel.

I'm with you. They wouldn't issue her a license if she was not able to safely drive, at least at city speeds, and there is a lot more time to think situations out wheeling (moderate difficulty) than in a daily driving situation.

Besides, if she misjudges a move and smacks into a tree... its her Jeep (remind me to back up spectating though :eyes:).

Cherokeegirl... Have fun with your Jeep! It's yours, do what you want.

You are correct on this issue. I do have a valid NC license, and I do drive around town with no issues, even up to 50mph. And yes, I am perfectly capable of driving on the highway, but I just prefer not to. People are always driving like idiots on the highway, and at those speeds, you can't afford to make a mistake.

My vision is not so poor that I can't see what I'm doing. Basically what it comes down to is, I only have vision in one eye, but I can see fine enough to drive in the other one.

Don't get discouraged, jsut ask up. You will find there are a lot of nice people that are willing to help out on here. The problem is logistics. We are a huge chagpter that takes up a lot of teritory. IF all are intrested and you could get it here, we could do a lift party/grill out. I have a 2 bay shop about 75 miles south on 151. A good friend has a shop with a lift too really close by.

That's the truth!!!!!! You've probably figured out the ones who are here to bash and poke fun. Just ask. We tend to stick together....you know,
"It's a Jeep thing." :)
