need DD

Skanky's killing me at 8-10mpg.

preferably an auto tranny for stop and go traffic

mild mechanical work needed ok...

trying to avoid rusty hulks...

Within a couple hours drive of Chi-town would be preferable

oh...

and cheap

Ever thought about something that gets acceptably good milage that you can tow with? The 8-10 mpg sucks when going to and from wheelin' trips.

Just a thought ...

Acceptably good milage and towing? What vehicle do you have in mind Les?

I know it's not a "cool" truck, but I get 18 mpg in that GMC Pickup of mine. For me, that's acceptable mileage. Towing ... I get 13 mpg if I can run 70 mph in OD (>2000 rpm) ... 11 mpg if I have to run in 3rd and 60 - 65 mph (>2500 rpm).

Depends upon what Gils expectations are as far as "acceptable mileage".

You could've offered to find me one in rust-free Cali...

but Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

May you develop an itchy rash on your balls

Sorry Gil; I'm passivly looking for one for my father. You can have his sloppy seconds though.

Gotta go... My balls itch.

Gil, my friend JPinSTL has a cherry '89 MJ longbed for sale, the ad is in the NAXJA classifieds. It has AC, D44, 2" springs, 31's, 3.55 gears, 5-speed, 231.

Same guy that BOB bought his MJ from.

ther'es a shortbed 2WD one here, it's got the pukegoat though.
Not i nbad shape body wise, just some rust above the rear wheel wells.

That is one nice MJ.

$3k though...

May be worth it for a DD.

I paid 3500 for mine back in '01, and it wasn't nearly as well equipped as his. Served me well as a DD until we moved and I got the Sub.

the 87 cost me $1500. In hindsight I may have overpaid, but it's pretty rust free :)

good lord!

I paid 475 for my 2wd DD...

(dont mind the fact that it has taken $550 in repairs to make it pass smog and still needs a coat of paint before Ill post a picture of it...)

It's almost too nice for a DD for me...

Did the 4 cylinder 4x4's ever come equipped with an auto?

I've got massive stop and go traffic to deal with..

Hmm... Spot the wonder manche' cost me $500. And 10 seconds of plugging the vaccuum line back in to make 4wd work.

Gil, how do you feel about Wagoneers?

I'm looking into one for you unless you are not interested.

as in full size waggy?

or xj waggy?

either way...

can't really go wrong...

I was hoping for an MJ for when we buy an house next year (hopefully)

but a full size waggy or J truck would tow Skanky nicely...

Those 2 door late 70's cherokees are reeeeeal nice.

:D
