I gotta tell you guys about this car I have been driving for the past week while my baby, The xj waits for a FL Regestration sticker. I dislike lowered hondas and all that crap as much as the next Jeeper, but I may have found a new apperation for there style of cars and driving. This 1991 VW Corrado G60 is awesome. It has a superchared 4cylinder and makes 170Hp and weighs less than 1 ton. That makes for some fun, loud, and thrown back in the seat interstate driving:D If any of you guys ever have a chance to drive one, go for it. It might make you think about buying a second car, and making it a sports car ;)
The people that own them are like us, too. do a web search on them and see how many tech forums come up, its amazing. Anyways, check the pic and tell me what you think.

I pulled the seats out of a wrecked Corrado and put them in my 66' mustang. I don't know much about the car itself - but I really liked the seats! Although, getting them in the mustang cost me alot of blood and sweat... the germans don't do anything simple it seems! anyway, my seats were black leather and had great support for the turns and weren't too bad on long trips even! I don't know your budget for this car, but you may also look at the newer GTI's (they are basically fast Golf's - but they can outrun a Z3). I've always been a fan of the Corrado though. Should be good for 140 mph as well... enjoy!

I have to tell you guys that I just got back from an excursion to Richmond to pick up a car and drive back. WOW does that car handal! Its about 240miles there and back and I made the trip in about 3 hrs!. I found a couple of bmw's that waned to go fast and I was right with them going about a buck 10! I am definatly going to purchase one of these for my sport ride along with my jeep. You guys have to drive one, the Germans did this car right!!!!!

I have always loved the Corrado as well. It is the only veedub that was ever a dream car of mine. Never had the pleasure to sit behind the wheel so I must say I appreciate the report. I started liking the XJ during high school partially because this cute girl drove (her parents) cherokee chief! I also started liking classic Mustangs about that time when an early stang owner showed up to help us when my frinds Blazer wouldn't start. I was into those bang for buck style and I thought the Corrodo was really cool when it came out. Well, two dream cars down! Now all I need is a Corrado a 300zx a Lotus an MJ a Volvo cross country a etc. etc.....

drewlee77 ya still got that 66 stang? Mine is a 66 as well. It will be quite a while before it hits the road again. :(

nope. sold it. I needed something reliable that I could take on trips and have room for cargo. Plus I got tired of 16 mpg of premium... plus I got tired of cops pulling me over even when I didn't do anything wrong (I had one cop lie through his teeth and claim he clocked me at 55... from a standstill, while turning left, in less than 40 feet....that kinda stuff gets old) plus I got tired of fixing it....the list goes on. It would have been fun to keep - if I could have gotten my Jeep and kept it as a toy. It just wasn't possible. I hope you enjoy yours though!

How much does the Corrado weigh? I really doubt it weighs less than a ton. the only sports car I have ever seen that weighed less than a ton is the Lotus Elise. Even a Miata weighs more than that!

My 66 assisted me with my first and only cop/ticket experience, the other helpers where the blond in the convertable speeding ahead of me wich got the Nevada Trooper to turn around in the first place and the boring drive on I-80 betwean Elko and the middle of nowhere wich lead to my impatience hindering me from checking to see if he turned around.

on http://www.vw-corrado-club.co.uk/main.htm they list the Corrado weighing in at 2,731lbs. A friend of mine was into tuning Golfs(?) when the Corrado was available, I remember him saying that he could get more performance due to them being lighter than the Corrado or something like that.

yes, but you forget about one small thing, A SUPERCHARGER STOCK!

Someone say Corrado?
Here's mine. Alpine White '92 G60. I bought it new in '92 and have kept it all original too. I recently sold it however I'm thinking about buying it back from the guy I sold it to. I really love that car. The G60 was pretty good in it's day but most anything out nowadays could walk it. As far as character goes though, nothing can touch it.

The one I have been driving is pretty well suped up. Neuspeed products all the way around. Camshaft, pchip, intake, g60hp kit,and hi flow exhaust. all most forgot the engine pullys, and the lowering coils. The guy my father bought it from was a corrado master! This car has to be making a good bit more hp that the stock, I would maybe guess after doing some reasearch at the Corrado club of america that its making almost 200hp. It hauls ass! What a car.

Even with those mods you'd still be hard pressed to just equal the performance of todays compacts. I love the Corrado's but I also am realistic. I bought a '92 SLC (VR6) for my wife shortly after I bought the G60 and that was more of a hot rod (money pit though). Got rid of that after just a year because of so many problems but it sure would go.
I wouldn't recommend a Corrado as a second vehicle either, maybe a 3rd vehicle simply because of their age and reliability history and even more so if it's modded at all. My G60 was the most reliable car I've ever owned and I owned it for 10 years and 90k miles however my case seems to be an anomaly. You can verify this by perusing some of the Corrado boards out there.
Good luck with it and post pictures when you have them!
Btw, that pic you attached is a VR6 not a G60.

Joe, that Corrado fit you just right! Did your other half make you get rid of it? If you get it back you will have to let me see what it's like behind the wheel of that sweet piece of German engineering!

Of coarse anyone who chooses the "rice burner" option on the poll doesn't know what they are talking about. ;)

Hey you have a pretty good eye with the Vr6 picture. Thats my next purchase!I didn't think anyone would notice that. So far the car has done really well. It has 125,000 miles and dosen't miss a beat. We have had it for 3 years now too. those things are a labor of love, If you treat It right It will treat you right.

I will get some pic's up tomorrow. Thanks for all the responces, I didn't think many jeepers would know of such an obscure car produced in the early 90's. Right on!:D   :guitar:

Hey Jared, e-mail me. What's up with ya?
Funny story on why I sold the Rado. Came out from the grocery store one day to find a business card on the windshield on the back it said, "when you're ready to sell, call me." I wasn't even planning on selling it. It was going to be my daily driver since we had bought a new Passat about a year earlier for my wife. But the wife and I started thinking. If we could get what we wanted out of the car which was about $2000 more than high book, then we would do it and pay off what we owed on the Passat and I'll just use the Jeep for my daily driver for a while. If not, no big deal either because I would just as well keep the Rado. We called the guy up about two weeks later and told him we weren't planning on selling the car but we'd like to hear his offer. He came and looked at it, test drove it and asked what we wanted. Sure as sh#$ he didn't even low ball us and we went to the bank right there and did the transaction. He paid cash for it. We paid off the Passat. My wifed cried when the guy left the bank in the car she loved it so much. Now I'm looking for a miserly car to use for work.

Wow, nice schoreroco (spelling?) You have a turbo or a supercharger on that thing? That car was the first VW purchase for pops about 6 years ago. The one we bought was pretty beat though. After the shifter fell through the floor we got rid of It and ended up with the Corrado

don't see too many of those scirroccos around hear anymore. looks like a VW show judging by the background.

Joe,
So the wife cried eh... thats to bad, at least it sold well. I'll e-mail ya, we will have to go wheel'n!

Time!!

It's a callaway scirocco (made by the same callaway that does the corvette conversions)

there were only 20 or 34 of them made (depending on who you talk to)

a good friend of mine found one and we built a full-on drag car out of it. pushin 22lbs of boost, TSI intercooler, 1.8L bottom end with dished pistons and it still pings a little with 112 octane under full boost.

I don't have any pics of Rob's, but it looks VERY similar to the one pictured (without the ATS cup wheels, and it has a GTX front end on it)

but yes, it was a factory turbo scirocco, and damn that car is FUN to drive... anywhere!!

and yep... there's a few Jeep dudes who know VWs too :D (honestly, I've probably spent MORE time wrenchin' on Veedubs than wrenchin' on Jeeps  )

If you love the G60 Corrado, then you'll LOVE the VR6 variant. G60 did 0-60 in something like 8 or 9 seconds, VR6 did it in almost 7 flat. Top speed 140+.

I owned a GTI (Golf) VR6 whilst in Germany, very capable car.

But 168 hp out of that tired 1.8 supercharged 8 valver does not a fast car make. BUT, there's help, pulley, intake, exhaust, chip tuning, very nice car.

Fun little car, still love them to this day. I just hope they (VW) DON'T bring back the Corrado, as with everything else VW, it loses it's soul.

James

Hey, Remi... As much as I like the topic, I'm in agreement with you.
