My other club, the Waywegos holds their meetings at the Lawrence L. Frank Community Center of Ability First. "Ability First provides programs and services to help children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities realize their full potential throughout their lives."
The center does NOT charge us rent for our monthly meetings. In return, we organize one run, each year, for the children and young adults who make up the client base of the center. The Waywegos have been doing this for 28 years.
This year, we've been told to expect at least 40 kids. That's twice the amount of any previous year and the Waywegos will need help from members of the 4wheel drive community to provide a sufficient amount of seats for all the kids.
The run is June 4th. Meeting time is 8:00AM at the Lawrence L. Frank Community Center in Pasadena. We'll leave at 9:00AM and head for Angeles National Forest, and to the Valley Forge Campground. Once there, counselors from the center will keep kids amused will some of us prepare lunch for everybody. At some point during the day, forest rangers disguised as Smokey The Bear will make an appearance and pass out Smokey hats and coloring books.
With luck and some cooperation from the Forest Service, we hope to complete this traditional run not by retracing our route, but instead by following the path of the Mount Lowe Railroad.
What do we need from you? A couple of empty seats. Proof of insurance and a relatively clean DMV report. Your driving record can not have any significant violations such as a DUI or reckless driving. A normal infraction or two is fine.
To get that, fill out this form and either take it to a DMV office or mail it, along with $5, to:
Department of Motor Vehicles
Office of Information Services
Public Operations Unit G199
P. O. BOX 944247
Sacramento, California 94244-2470
If you're willing to help out and able to commit to June 4th., please contact Keven Clarkson and let him know that you're a friend of Andy Steiner. Also let him know how many seats you have available for kids.
Thank you.
