Well got a bad virus, actually 2 from jeepform.com , I run firewall, zone alarm with real time antivirus stuff, it caught it, after it installed itself...Got a few removel tools. I am trin to fix on my main PC that got infected.... I really dont understand why people make that crap..... last virus a couple months ago tore my PC up, and that was watching vids on youtube........ Just had to rant :) :geek:

I use Coyote Linux Firewall on some cheap older POS system I have. Works great. So I run from modem to the firewall computer, then to my router/AP

You DID NOT get a virus, from watching videos on youtube.

What web browser are youy using? Use firefox, then install noscript, and flashblock, and for fun adblock too. These add-ons basically turn your web browser into safe mode, you must actively allow every website you trust to run scripts, flash animations have to be played, they dont just start, and ad's are a thing of the past.

Theres downsides to my method, but it seems your downsides to browsing unprotected are much worse.

It was a Trojan.small and another....... A newer virus originating from China, I was on www.jeepforum.com this time and reading threads, using IE and have zone-alarm firewall I have used for many years, I let a flash-player app open in zonealarm warning like I do many times so the web page loads and works correctly, then next thing I know all sorts of stuff pops up that this and that wont load from windows, then black desktop and telling me app after app will not load as image is damaged in windows..... I ran multi virus programs and tools from safe mode, did all the rootkit cleaning tools, regedit and removed all registry info it told me to remove, I even loaded in a whole new registry I have back ups from all the way up to 2 years ago, all was fine but no internet, I would uninstall network adapter and the minute it was reinstalled and working and had internet access all hec would break loose, the virus has a way to hide files and paths and lock files, I really did battle, I even went as far as recovery from alot of points in time i could recover to, I did a start point from last month, then it said all my recovery points and windows corrupted......

So luckily I had a free copy of Windows 7 Home Premium Compaq had given me last year for all people whom bought Compaq/HP products with Windows Vista installed, I never installed it as Vista always worked for me....also I picked up another Sata hard drive new a couple weeks ago to add to my system as my 500gig main drive was getting full.....

I popped out old HD and installed new one in its place, loaded and installed windows 7 by itself with no HP disc they sent along also to add their bloat ware and all up and running in 20 minutes..... wow, windows 7 is painless, I didnt even have to change boot sequence to install 7 from disc.... its awesome, loads faster and looks so much better.... spent last hour loading in all my programs I get off the net I use, updated Nvidia drivers for graphics card and good to go, tonight i will rebuild my Steam game account and tomorrow will grab another Sata cable and P3 to Sata power adaptor as all the power connectors off the power supply are to short! and install my old HD as a slave drive, transfer all my documents and pics and all personal stuff to new HD and format old HD with virus and old windows vista........

I spent alot of time trin to get rid of it, I am pretty good at getting around a PC and have fixed other virus probs in the past.... More I did the steps and used tools from various forums and websites to fix this problem, the more it destroyed my system......

I really also need to use Firefox more for surfing.......Just makes me mad people have nothing better to do but make viruses, always thought it was the anti virus companies making the viruses so we buy their stuff.....

I have windows 7 on my ASUS Netbook I use in the Jeep tethered to my Blackberry and really did not notice a difference compared to Vista as the netbook is slow and not very powerful. but Windows 7 on my desktop PC is really a lot better then Vista in alot of ways......

I did catch a virus from youtube, that was about 6 months ago and was looking at youtube vids when stuff went array.... it destroyed and emptied all my program shortcuts in start menu, and deleted a bunch of Windows add ons.... I got rid of it using malwarebytes and SuperAntivirus tools, it was easier to make another user account on my PC and use it, then try and fix all the missing stuff and corrupted files, new user account everything was intact and usable.......

I wouldn't consider adblock "for fun". It's pretty much "required", at least for me. I wouldn't consider ever running a browser on my own machine without it.

True, true, just meant that it wasnt for security's sake, but more for creature comforts.

x2, about never running a web browser without one.

Ok, I'm not going to break this thing apart, because well... there's just too much nonsense here to be worth my time. I can tell you that you didn't get a virus from BROWSING jeepforum or LOOKING at youtube. Just because shit went sideways while you were on one of those two sites, doesn't mean they were the contributing factor.

I'm actually not even sure how people get viruses these days, I haven't had one in several years, and run no anti-virus other than windows defender and the stock windows firewall, both bundled with windows, and if up to date quite powerful. I also run Firefox with ad-block and noscript and believe a LOT of people get stupid trojans by clicking ads. Another contributor is people clicking on things they THINK are normal... For instance, you may see a facebook login page that looks legit, check the address bar, same goes for any login info etc. Also, don't download "plugins" etc if you don't know what they are. For someone who can get around a computer pretty well, this should be common knowledge to you.

Lastly, AV companies don't write the viruses, at least for the most part. Most trojans and worms are using your computer to do other things. The malicious and destructive ones are usually written by some ass hole who wants to say "look what I did".

Most viruses come from malicious ads that exploit security holes in Java and Flash, if you run Firefox with adblock plus and keep your java and flash up to date you should remain relatively virus free.

As for cleaning viruses I use 3 tools;
-Tdsskiller
-hitman pro
-combofix

with those I can clean 99.99999% of viruses.
