Value of venting???

Hey all,
OK, I know this has been done by many of you. My questions are:

1.Is this a worthwhile mod, REALLY? Does it work?

2.Where is the best location on the hood to locate the vents? If you use the back of the hood, do you have to worry about getting electronics wet? If you go down the center, what about the plugs, wires, dizzy, injectors, etc...?

I apologize profusely if these are nOOb questions. I just figure those who have gone BEFORE me will have some insight to the pros and cons and the pitfalls.

Thanks,
crusT~

I've given this a lot of thought. Most things under the hood will not mind getting wet. The exception would be a reusable air filter, a K&N or Airaid. I have one and I don't want rain rinsing the oil off and compromising it's performance.

The main reason I wanted to do it was to knock down the underhead temps. It doesn't hurt the engine proper, but other parts do well in cooler environs, specifically the battery. I've gone through a lot of batteries and I'm sure the high heat has been a factor.

I ended up shimming the hinge plate and raising the back half of the hood a bit to allow the entire length to be a vent.

Hey,
That's funny that you've used that method. My buddy was talkin' about that EXACT approach the other day. Does that bind your latch pin at all? It's sorta' like a poor-man cowl induction. I've thought about the cowl hood from Quadratec, but that's a little pricey right now Seems like the more air flow and heat you can pass out, the better.

Hey,
Good find. The Quadratec item is all metal, so it'd be the most durable I'd think. This is cool though. Anyone tried this? Would it be strong enough?
