Using LSD?

seen trutracs in the frt and rear of xj's always act like a open diff, in the snow they plow worse then lockers

I run mine in the snow every year wonderfully, the rear locker ist the only thing that acts nasty in the snow. Offroad, it never slips. The only time it acts open is if one wheel completely lifts of the ground. Which does not happen often as my setup flex very well

Well id weld it because i will later install a air locker. I have money for two true track diffs. But not enough for two lockers. So weld it for now. Put a selectable in the front.

If you have enough for two true tracks you have enough for lockrights with change left over. You could do both axles with lunch boxes cheaper then one slectable after you add in the cost to set up gears.

On my axles:
8.25> new no slip $400, 1 hour installed with simple tools
30> used lockright $150, 1 hour installed with simple tools

Yeah if they keep the front locked up that would suck in the snow. Main reason i dont want a lunch box in my front. They end up staying locked and steering becomes crummy. I mite just wait to buy both air lockers and do them at the same time. I called a guy i run with. He has sponcer ship from ARB he can buy them at a discount. S waiting and doin it right im sure will pay off later.

not to start trouble, but DONT listen to peoples advice on truetracs unless its real first hand logged miles off road experience, i was on the fence with the whole locker VS truetrac debate, read many threads just like this one, knew how lockers acted on a DD, and how the TT should act in theory..took a gamble and went somewhat against the grain with dual TT's, you cant even compare a TT to a clutch type LSD, totally different animal.
if your looking for great street/all around offroad traction, dual TT's are a excellent choice. i have been wheeling mine in deep snow since it started to fall this year, and have zero trouble, i have greatly improved on road traction all the time VS open and the factory LSD, you will notice a huge decrease in wheel spin in all conditions vs Open or factory LSD with none of the daily driving locker trade offs.
No fancy gear oil required, and way less abuse on the drivetrain vs foot to the wood open diff offroading and really saves the components in situations where a locker would just force something to break.
YES a locker is better for a more dedicated off road machine, lockers are great, love the lockers, BUT TT LSD are just as great if your honest with yourself about the way your jeep is going to be used, and that use happens to be daily driver/weekend bush machine.
next time i head out (tomorrow i hope) i will make some gopro vids of my XJ and its TTs doing things that will end the debate, the ONLY time my recovery gear has gotten dirty is when im pulling someone else out. deep snow, mud holes up to the hood, loose sand hill climbs, roots rocks and rivers, i keep throwing more and more at them and every time i am more and more amazed, 32x10.50 TSL radials run at 13PSI off road, then drive home like a stock jeep, (with loud tires)

all that being said, i would NOT go TT if i had a manual trans, the auto and a good set of rubber really makes them shine though.

please make some vids. because i do wheel deep snow. i been doing it on open diffs on wide 35's and as long as i dont over throttle. i been able to climb realy well. with out beating my rig. now if the tt's will offer some more traction i'll be set. depending on the snow i can climb pretty steep stuff if i idle along and dont break traction. but side hilling locked up is way easier. and crabbing is way more easier to control . if i could improve in those areas of operation i'll be happy.

my tire size will be 38 summer, 40's come winter. so what ever i use has to be able to handel the tires for sure. but i do think i am stuck on air lockers.

40s on a d44?... good luck...

just cuz you cant, dont mean i cant.

i got told the same thing running 35's on my stock d35. i have yet to break it and my tires are 16 wide 35 tall.

what you can and cant do with a rig realy depends on how much gas you like to use. and snow wheeling realy isnt hard on your rig. the more gas you use the less you move and you just end up digging .

but if your right . i'll just have to put a 60 up front.

Love my TT in my street car.
currently runnin aussie/ ford 8.8 lsd in the rear. It works better than expected, but still dissapoints in deep rocks

i wont be able to make any vids till next weekend, but i will post them up when i do, IIRC the TT was only rated for a 35" tire though...i did not realize you ran or intend to run jumbo tires.

true-tracs suck.

my jeep open rear/locked front has a much easier time in the rocks than tom's jeep locker rear/ TT front.

Well if i run locked f&r i could play in rocks. I usualy dont. My rig can do a little rock work but i wont lie. Ive always wanted to join circle of air locker vehicals. :D

yeah your right, an open diff is WAY better.

I'm talking about the difference between a rig locked in the frt vs a TT in the frt.

even with a rear locker, the one with the TT front underperforms the one with a locker in the front and no rear locker.
