I broke a steering box bolt and need just one. i also broke part off of the spacer. so if anyone has a bolt and a spacer (or just a bolt), i would be willing to drive to get it. im in bloomington, IN

im leaving really early monday morning for PA so tomorrow is the only day that would work

anything would help

Can't help you out but you might PM Pat he lives in Bloomington. He may have one!

It is just a standard bolt.
I would use a grade 8.
3/8, 7/16, one of the two.

Truth. JCR sent me three Grade 8 bolts to replace the stockers with their unibody brace. Take your broken one to Ace or Lowes and match the threads up.

lowes didnt have it. illiana is there one near you that you could check out for me? id be willing to drive out there if you have one

I would, but I am in Indianapolis for the weekend. You don't have any farm type stores around Bloomington?

I'd tell you how to get a stock bolt out of my shed, but Brianho13 used it as a LCA bolt last time we were at Redbird :D

Good luck getting an intelligent person at RK, I'd try TSC first.

Edit: call Liberty Pull A Part in Evansville, they had a couple XJs last time I was there - (812)435-2024 www.libertypullapart.com

no luck at TSC or RK (left me on hold for forever too)

Liberty is closed tomorrow.

all out of ideas...lol
driving to KY is looking better and better lol

FWIW....i drove around for a few months on tow bolts with no ill effects, but spacer intact. No wheeling of course. just an idea to save you some driving......you could jb weld the spacer and just use two bolts. i have and recommend the c-rok inner steering brace to replace the OEM spacer. http://www.c-rok.com/sb.html ..... pm sent BTW.

i got the bolt out, took the spacer out an vice gripped it out.

but im meeting dudeinanxj tomorrow morning in louisville to get a new spacer and bolts.

the crok is on the list when i get back from the coast

Pmain has one...but he's in Fort Wayne riding go karts in the snow on macgrubers figure 8 track...

He'll be back in B-town tonight...if he gets off the go kart...

mac 'we have a tractor store here too' gyvr

Hopefully he has gotten this fixed ...

I made a "spacer" to fit 3/8" x 5" grade 8 bolts (iirc). I used a piece of 1/4" plate and welded standoffs on it for the gearbox. It moved the gearbox inward a little bit, but not enough to hurt anything. Just had to adjust the drag link to re-center the steering wheel.

Yeah, I hope so. I met him in Louisville about 11am with a spacer and a couple bolts. He was planning on leaving about 4am in the morning headed to Mass. I hope all is well.

i got it all fixed up, thanks jason.

we got it tossed on and i left for maryland at 4 in the morning. then PA, and now im in NC. i did have to tighten the box bolts halfway from PA to NC. we wheeled out in PA pretty good and they came loose.

so once i head back from NC, i will have finished a 2000 mile trip in the XJ lol
