URGENT help needed

A buddy of mine is moving and is broke down. His AC compressor seized and shredded his belt last night. He is located at Morganton nc. Either I need someone to drop off a compressor or if it's possible let me know if he can use a shorter belt to bypassing AC or if you can unlock the compressor somehow. I can paypal some $ if you need it. Let me know ASAP. The belt option would probably be the easiest if it's possible.

Thanks,
Alec

Get ahold of Nick. He is in that area I think. That is west of Hickory. I'm over 3 hours away. What kinda vehicle is it? xj?

Yes, it's an XJ - 1988 I believe.

It is problaby the clutch on the front. Does he have any tools? Advanced or Oreiley's would have the puller for rent I think.

I know he does have some tools because he replaced the belt last night in the dark.

What's up with pulling the pulley off the compressor? Can he replace just the pulley or what?

Nick is in the Raleigh area currently, but Morganton is about an hour and a half from me. It'd be tonight before I could get up there (don't get off work until 5:30). If someone can come up with a compressor or a belt size I can ride up there and bring all the tools necessary to change it.

I just talked to my buddy and he ended up having AAA tow the Jeep to a place closer to Greenville. Since they are in the process of moving to set up their residency at a hospital up there, he couldn't delay too much.

Wouldnt it be easiest to pick up a bypass pulley from an auto parts store?

Good Luck...

Can you? I sugested disconeting the clutch. Pully should free spin I would think.

From what I understand - it could be the clutch is stuck. Disco'ing the electrical circuit should free it up, unless there is mechanical damage that is locking the clutch to the pulley.

He said that he had it towed closer to Greenville. Him and his wife are moving from Memphis. They are going to start their residency up there somewhere.

Dunno if it will help but I have a good compressor with a good clutch on it boxed and ready to ship laying in the garage. $20 plus whatever it costs to ship :dunno: PM me if i can help.

It came off of a 91 HO, but it's still an r12 compressor should be the same but I can't say 100%. they mount the same but the connection on the back might be different.

I think the 91 had a different way to mount.
