From what I've seen, FedEx is cheaper and faster for the same package. Compared a 70lbs box:
FedEx
$32 3-4 days
UPS
$39 7 days

I agree!
but then again, my wife works for Fed/ex, so it's always cheaper :paperwork

I shipped a rather large (probably 1.5cubic feet) with 35 lbs of coil springs for 12.35 with 3 day delivery...
Fed Ex is cheaper with larger heavier items...

thats funny, i will not use fedex...check out their sight. according to them the "home delivery" option. if you dont recieve your package in five business days they refund you shipping. aj from ajsoffroad sent me my rock rails via fedex and when they got to Toledo Ohio, fedex screwed up and sent them to Tampa Florida mind you i live in Detroit Michigan. it took fedex till the next friday to get my rockrails to me....and to date they have not given aj or me any money back and they charged him interest because we did not pay them and instead contested the shipping charge....screw F-ed up Ex..UPS rocks...

YMMV...

I have found that with shipping large items, tires in particular Fedex will beat the pants off of UPS. Fedex purchased RPS not too long ago to create the ground delivery service, and I think they are undercutting UPS prices on purpose. Providers competing for our service is nothing but good for consumers.

I had to ship a $215,000.00 part next day air to Florida a couple weeks ago through FedEX. Them ba%^$#ds would only insure it to $50,000. It cost $750.00 to get it there by 10 AM. (I shipped it out at 4PM). Other than the insurance part they where pretty quick and reasonable.
UPS is only good up to $50k per package also according to this receipt I have. Yes, I used UPS! Only because the person who payed to have it returned wanted to use UPS so I guess I didn't really use them. :)

Price wise Fed-ex wins, in every other way. A herd of goats would be better.

Fed-ex can't find anything that doesn't have large flashing signs in front the door. My damage rate is about three times as high, and the people that answer their phones are aasshats of the highest order.

I ordered some drive shafts, and the shipper only used Fed-ex, and wouldn't ship them to me at work. So I got stuck with home delivery. I live on the first block past the East-West split in my town. My street address is 6 East. 6 West is four houses to the west of me. Fed-ex misdelivers my driveshafts there, and tells me that they were signed for. When I got the proof of delivery it was signed by D.River. Hmmm, thats not my name, and the guy at 6 west is named Glenn. Wait, just a second..... D.River, that driver.. F-ing tool signed it Driver when noone was home.

So the shipper sends me a second set of shafts as we attempt to crawl through the claims process, better known as Black Hole of Calcutta. The second rear arrives at my house. And its bent about 15 degrees. The asshat at claims, asks 'do you think it can be repaired'.

Finally on the third try, seller finally sends shafts to my work, and sends it through two day Express. And an actual professional driver delivers it, intact.

When I was reaming my account rep about the situation, I told him just because you changed the name on the outside of the truck, doesn't mean you solved the problem in the truck.

Another Fed-ex ground story. I recieved a box damaged(suprise). There is a note on it, saying 'sorry we damaged your package, entire contents are enclosed' Box was completely empty. They never found the parts that were originally in the box.

Their OSD department is a bigger joke. My dock boss calls me and tells me that Fed-ex is dropping off the motors we ordered. I went out and found four brand new electrical motors for compressors. Made by Dayton Electical. They weren't in boxes and had no addresses on them. We didn't order any motors. I called Fed-ex, and OSD told me that since they were out of the box, the OSD guy, figured they were our motors cause they said Dayton on them, and Dayton is part of our name. We don't sell or service electrical motors, we are in construction supply. Fed-ex wouldn't come back out and pick them up either.

DHL has been getting my business lately. Been ordering european car parts lately and most of the vendors I've been using use DHL. I usually get the next day by 2:00 pm option and every time they have been in my hands by 10:00 am.

so far UPS has lost a set of sliders I sent out and some coilovers that I was supposed to recieve. They suck a huge one.
