Apparently working from home this weekend was a bad idea....I looked through all my mags from when I was a Chevy boy and made a decision...It's going to be long project, but I've officially decided to do a Chevy 350 conversion.

already got a 350 short block, probably not going to bore or stroke it. If i do, i'll stroke it to a 383. Already planning on the L73 Vortec Heads, ported and polished with 1.6-1.7RR's, depending on the lift of the cam i go with, but it will be carb'd almost for sure. I had an 89 camaro back in the day with the L03 TBI motor and the TBI is anemic. max flow on those, even ported like i had it, is something in the range of 350-450 cfm. If i do end up going with a TB setup, it will absolutely NOT be the GM TBI system. Summit offers a few cool TB injection setups for not too bad $. If yall come across some cheap SBC parts, let me know!

when i wheeled my 77 chevy blazer i just had the stock carb and it did well on inclines and that sort of thing. i would look into tb though....

So what is all this going into?

DO IT. I want a V8 in my XJ. Or does my XJ want a V8 in it?

LO3 is a snot motor...who wants a 305 any way.max flow on a stock TBI that has all the Ultimate TBI mods is well over 600cfm fool. carbed and offroad is a foolish idea any way. i hate ppl that talk shit about tbi...my LO3's were always faster than TPI 350 and far cheaper to build...

Flores-after dyno runs, 1/8 runs, and 1/4 runs before and after Ultimate TBI mods (courtesy of thirdgen.org!), there was a negligible difference in any of them. I find it hard to believe, from personal experience on my old thirdgen and others, both 305 and 350, that any GM TBI is capable of over 600 CFM. You've also got to remember, that although I drive a lifted XJ, mine is a daily driver and sees a hell of a lot more highway than mud and rocks. This is more for personal fun and to confuse the shit out of people thinking it's just an old beat up Jeep. I deeply regret getting rid of my Camaro and my 5.9 R/T years ago, and this is a fun way to get back into muscle without having to buy another Rig.

and swampy and alex-funny how the two guys talking shit are the kids who don't even have XJs.....

Is that so my darling? I am sure I have access to any XJ, including yours. Also, I am currently on the hunt for an XJ for my pleasure. So sire, I bid you reverse your statement, for Ian nor I misplease the liking of your vehicle.

Alex, i love ya kiddo, but next time you try to sound smart don't make up words like "misplease."

And access to any XJ? How did it go asking Justin at A/T Fab to borrow his XJ?

:-)

I actually decided not to even bother and ask him. I didnt want his XJ either. I wanted one of the JK's that he has. But then I remembered...none of them are street legal. Awell. All is good.
