Turn Headlights In to DRL

find a wiring diagram and re-rout the wire that goes to the headlamp switch so it runs to a switched power source instead of an un-switched source if you do this your lights will come and go off with the key but you will need to find a circuit that will handle the added load or you will burn out your ignition switch I hope this helps as it's a real pain in the butt typing without and punctuation

Just out of curiosity, why all the trouble just to avoid pulling the switch?

Ok so when you say circut what do you mean i couldn't jus take the acc wire from the radio and go to the wire that soposed to go to the hot wire on the switch

you could do that IF the wire you choose is designed to carry enough current for the headlamps and it is fused with a large enough fuse to keep it from tripping (an indicator of the circuit's capacity) remember you need a wire that can handle the amperage that you are demanding to safely re-engineer the circuit

I would put in a relay that is triggered from the ACC line, this relay will cut and activate the existing headlight circuit. Simple and you don't have to worry about new fuses or anything.

Cut the wire for headlight power, and connect from fuse panel to 87, connect the output to the switch to 30, connect ACC to 86 and ground 85.

That should make the switch only work when ACC is on.

And this will work like I want it to and the switch still work and what type of relay should I use and what wire color is the hedlights on the fuse panel

Get a cheap ebay headlight harness (~30 shipped), cut the wire that plugs into the factory low beam here (Thanks, Fitch!), wire it to a switched source, done.

Doesn't change the factory wiring, requires no auto-electric wiring knowledge, and he won't need a meter or manual to make it work. High beams should work normally, and a bit better lighting to boot. Easy upgrade later to better lights later. Maybe $40, if he has to buy the terminals and wire.

JCWhitney.com has a DRL module. Install the module and your headlights turn on automatically when the engine does.

If the Cherokee did not have factory DRL, the wires Required or a factory DRL module are not installed.

I want everything to come on just like when you pull the switch but I want to be able to leave the switch on and the light go on and off with the key so i don't want them to stay on when the key is turn off so all I have to do is jump in and turn the key I know this isn't hard just wanna know what exactly I need to do so no not techiniclay DRL

Sounds like a good mod especially if you run no doors! Then asshats can't turn your lights on unless the key is in.

My friend talked about doing this one time. He has no top or doors on his 96 XJ. Never had a problem with people being dicks though and turning his headlights on, but I suppose it could always happen sometime.

If you need to modify an XJ to have it in Canada....wiring the headlight low-beams on a relay that is ignition controlled would be sufficient. You do not necessarily need to get the module that runs the high-beams at a low voltage. Any light is sufficient. The only purpose of the high-beams at a lower voltage is that it saves your low beams from use so they last longer.
