Truck rental

There is a chance that I may be heading to California on short notice to pick up a dirt bike. I do not have a truck. I have looked online at the major car rental companies and can't find one that advertises one way rentals. I am going to try to fly out and then drive back. Was wondering if anyone has ever rented a small 2wd S-10, Ranger, etc.? Where did you rent from? My other option might be to find someone that has a trailer that I could use for the trip but I really don't want to rack up the mileage on my Jeep. The seller doesn't want to fool with shipping the bike to me either so I don't have many other options.

Ive never seen any compact PU`s for rent, only 3/4 ton stuff or vanss. I would do some serious lookin and pricing. when My sis moved back to Kali the wanted a one way and it would cost more than round trip. Had something to do with to many trucks leaving the state and haveing to hire someone to drive em back. Depending on where you are it might cost a bundle. What part of Kali are you comming to? There are several shipping Co`s that specalize in bikes, to bad the seller dont wanna mess with prep.

Bike is located near San Jose. If I had it my way...I'd fly out to check it out and then ship it back. Can't cost more than 2-3 hundred bones to ship it to Colorado. I'm not sure how much prep work is involved in shipping. This is probably going to be a royal PITA to make happen.

I could haul it from Moab or SLC for you in February.

Thanks Mark. I should know if things are going to go my way by tomorrow. I checked on renting an F-150 like the Rev suggested but they want about 270 for the rental. I guess if it comes to that I'll just drive my Jeep. I have a one bike hauler that slips into the hitch so the bike sits parallel to the hatch. I just don't want to transport this bike that far...that way. I may be forced to though. Your going to be in Moab or near SLC in Feb.? I'll let you know what happens. Wonder if we could meet for a beer on your way back east?

It cost about $600 to ship from CO a quad: a truck showed up at a doorstep of a sender, took the quad, loaded it up and shipped it up to IL and unloaded it at another doorstep.

That's way more than I would have guessed. Starting to wonder if this is gonna happen. It's such a long drive.

It's less if you can have it crated and loaded to a truck with a forklift or at a loading dock, but if you want the convenience of the door to door shipping, that's about what it runs.

By any chance did you happen to win this on ebay? Dont feel bad, I accidentally won my Ducati on Ebay also. Had to drive to Utah from the coast of Cal. Me and a buddy did a banzai run non stop back and forth. Good luck either way with it.

No I didn't win it on ebay. In fact...I'd make the trip even if he didn't want to ship it b/c I need to start it and see how the motor is. I also need to ride it. I just wish I could get off a plane and do that and then head back to the airport. To be honest...I really want the bike but I'm starting to get annoyed. I've been off work for the last 2 weeks and NOW this came to fruition. I get MLK day off so I'd be lookin' at making a 1300 mile run, solo, over that long weekend.

What Duck did you win?

You arrange it, I'm going to the Bay area in the next few weeks. I can get it at least to the SLC area.

Damn... it sounds like the shipping companies out west are taking people for rides... two years ago I bought a European RC 51 Liter bike and it only cost me about 400 to ship from Lorraine France. That was the company picking it up taking the wheels off, doing the handle bar work, crating it, loading it, flying it to the Pittsburgh airport and trucking it to my doorstep at WVU.

I'm hoping to hear from the guy today so I can figure out if I need to even worry about getting. Thanks TRNDRVR...I will let you know how things go down. I would owe you several frosty ones and a meal. Not a bowl of soup with crackers...but a nice meal.

It was about 6 months ago. I picked up a 94 Ducati/Cagiva Elefant 900. Well at least the airport is in San Jose if you decide fly in an just look. If you dont mind me asking what kinda bike is it? thats a long trip, must be something cool and worthwile or a killer deal. Good luck.

Enterprise rents F-150s and Chevy Pickups. I have gotten Dodge 2500 pickups there also.

Budget will rent smaller pickups...Rangers and such.

U-Haul also rents pick up trucks.

Dinner at Mendi's? I'm in!

I'm visiting the Intermountain Chapter for their Presidents Weekend run, and I'll have my flatbed trailer in tow since I'm delivering a '89 MJ chassis to Cody and Jeremy in Lehi. If Dan can get the bike there, I can bring it to you in Colorado on my return trip. That is, if you promise to keep your pants on.

What...no STL love?

That's cool man...whatever.

I ran to the store to get groceries and the guy called. He said he's calling back...should be any minute. Hopefully I will know tonight what the deal is. The only issue with Dan picking the bike up is that the guy laid it down recently and I need to check it out for damage. The truck rental thing isn't looking good b/c I had a hard time finding one way rentals and if I did they were crazy spensive.

Regardless though...if you're gonna be on I-70 heading home, maybe we could drive north and meet up for grub. Don't know if there's a Mendi's in Denver.

Just so you know...we won't be meatin' up. :laugh3:
