Stump, 80% of my night driving is on extremely rural unimproved back roads, dirt roads, gravel roads, and forest roads with an average speed of 20 mpg – 30 mph. 18% of my driving is on rural two-lane highways with an average speed of 50 mph – 60 mph. 2% of my driving is on interstate with an average speed of 65 mpg – 70 mph. With these driving conditions, which light would you go with?
I just got an email from John at JWS and they've got a little contest going.
Go to their FB page and "like" them --- enter to win a set of headlights or driving lights!
Bill,
We are going to be running a promotion to drive additional likes to our FB page...
We are going to be giving away a set of our headlights or driving lights.
I must say that now I have spent a little more time with the JW Speakers, I am liking the lowbeam just fine, which may make it a slight nod to the JW's instead of trucklights since the JW's high beams are phenomenal... Still, both are awesome, and we are talking about splitting hairs here. I definitely prefer the low-key styling of the Trucklites, but thats an opinion thing.
I really like the JWS product for daily driver duty.
And I really like the Trucklite product for slow/twisty/hilly stuff.
dieselenthusiast ---- be honest with yourself when you choose. The oooodles of foreground lighting is VERY nice to have when you're picking your way along slowly. If you give that up and go with the JW Speakers, do you have auxiliary lights to fill in?
On the other hand, the foreground lighting takes away distance sight ability at speed --- are you really going that fast that often at night?
Diesel, because of the slower speed of the night travel, the Trucklites may work out best since they seem to have a little wider spread closer to the vehicle, however the JW's would be a very close second. Not really an obvious winner between the two. Putting myself in your described conditions, I would seriously consider running the JW Speaker on high beam with an auxiliary wide spread light (fog pattern in the same color maybe?) for the closer to vehicle stuff. Either way, they both light up the night extremely well!
As of right now, I do not have any auxiliary lights. I’m starting from scratch and trying to build an ideal lighting setup. I know that I want the LED headlights and I’m willing to build off of that. Based on what you guys are saying, it would seem that the Truck-Lites would be your preference for slower speeds and the JW Speakers would be your preference for faster speeds and/or driving with the high beams. Am I correct on those assumptions? As for future lighting, I’m going with the Kevin’s Off-Road roof rack which will have light tabs. As of right now, I do not have any plans for fog lights. Honestly, there’s not much room for mounting fog lights on the front JCR bumper. I suppose that I could get creative and add fog lights.
Sorry to thread steal guys but do any of you have a person to contact at JW Speaker? I found a pair of hand held JWS HID Xenon spotlights in the recycle dumpster and they are 24V. I'm wanting to know if they can be made to work on 12v instead. Any help or input would be nice... Thanks!

I emailed John at JW Speaker with a link to your question.
Stump ---- Dawn PM'd me and said she got a '99 XJ with buggered headlights. She's hoping to win the pair of Speakers but might buy a set of Trucklites if not.
Have you seen it yet?
Thank you sir! I'm hoping I can maybe just change the bulb and cable assembly so it can just be wired into a relay powered switch. Maybe I can pull the handles off them and build a hard mount as well. But if I can't make them 12v it doesn't really matter... Waiting to hear something... and thanks again!

Yes the handheld HID lamps can be made to work on 12V, but they will have to replace the ballast inside the lamp. He can send in an email to our general email and we will direct him to a distributor.

FYI: I posted a simple installation video on YouTube for those still thinking about and to get a better perspective over just pictures. Even though shot in HD, its still doesn't match what you see in real life.
Hmm. Winter. Right.
Had it yet been mentioned that LEDs don't make heat and would be unable to melt snow off the lenses on their own? Any thoughts / experience here?
I have heard about traffic lights in some places going LED and getting frosted over badly enough as to be obscured...
