Treks Y-link

...so with this Y Link, you need limit straps right? Just wondering what limits your drop

he will need limit straps if he doesnt want his shocks limiting the travel, but w

but what limits your travel??? probably not your arms... so this only replaces your arms which would make the trackbar or shocks the next limit in the system, so youa may need limit straps as well mr.hammered

limit straps stop the axle from over extending the shocks on droop, they can also be used kind of as an anti-rock in the sense that you can get them at a length to prevent your coil unseating which would probably be dumb in tom's case since he has no locker so a tire in the air=bad

I wouldn't worry about limit straps or bump stops until you get a locker in your axle Tom... with open diffs, you want that tire to contact the ground no matter how much flex it gives you. The shocks will be your limiting factor, but when your rock crawling the suspension never droops fast enough or hard enough to damage a shock, so typically most aftermarket shocks will hold up fine acting as the suspension "limit". I don't run limiting straps.... never have. I can take my 8" lift coils out with the amount of flex I have in the front.

the Y seems like it would be free to go down as far as you would let it. Until the Heims maxed or like you said your steering linkage maxed out. Thats why I'm curious if this kit CAME with some sort of limit straps or... what they recommend for the application.

As for me... I need better bump stopping before anything... :banghead:

the kit doesnt come with the limit straps..so the only thing that would limit travel would be the shocks. and like Andy said chances are i probably wont need them. if i end up losing a coil or something then yea ill get em. but i spent too much money already! haha

very true, like andy said shocks are the limit in almost all setups and you don't ever really hear of to many failures from over sxtension, now over compression is another thing

i used to spend too much time looking at how to make the jeep go fast as well as slow because I also thought jeepspeed was pretty neat so I studied how them west coast boys do their suspension setups, over here speeds nver exceed walking rate at rausch so you should be a ok:patriot:

haha yea im definately not gonna be ripping down the trails at top speed.

and im definately getting a little annoyed. i STILL havent got my bumper yet. :bawl: ordered that shizit on the 2nd.... of LAST month! they must be really backed up with orders.

thats Crazy!!!

have you called

maybe its karma since your porc sye came so quickly

One thing I always tell EVERYONE though.... those little clips that hold the coil spring in place at the bottom on the axle.... NEVER run without them.... ESPECIALLY with long arms. If the clip is there holding the coil spring in place, the worst case is the top of the coil spring may unseat and slightly bind on the bumpstop tower... this is easily fixed by a swift kick with your foot to reseat the coil spring in the right place. It does totally suck though to watch your coil spring fall out and go rolling down the trail.....always put that little clip back in (or find another way to hold it to the coil bucket if the hole strips/bolt breaks) once the mods are done.

thankyou:worship:

Anyone looking for a good powder coating place i highly reccomend J&M on Todd
Rd in Honey Brook. the guys there were all really cool. They do super nice work and very very reasonable turn around time.. i got my bumper back in less than 6 hours!

I would. Get limiting straps NOW!! You'll need them, locker or not. Trust me...unless you have crappy front shocks that will limit the travel for you, you'll want them. Funny things happen when rock crawling. Things can shift hard and fast. Get them. Hell, run a front swaybar with it if you can!!

im pretty sure ill be fine.. if i have to jack up and reseat the coil so be it.. if i find i absolutely need limiting straps ill get a set.
