Travel trailers, which one???

Man theres SO many choices!! I'm looking for one that can be pulled comfortably by the XJ, at or around 10K. Must survive a trip to alaska and live there for 4+ years without be destyoyed by the weather. Like the full metal ones that are about 21 foot but the weight is up there!! looked at the pop ups but they put the price up there!!

Oh yea, gotta sleep 5.

Looking at these, what do you guys think??

I really like the looks of these new pop ups with the heavy duty tires.

Price is a concern though.

I must be missing something here. Five people for four years in a pop-up? In Alaska? You won't survive the first winter. You need a 36' double-wide, at least.

I'm sorry. I'm not trying to flame, but are you talking year 'round, or seasonal trips?

HAHA no I'll have a house sorry if I wasn't clear, what I mean is it will need to survive outside under cover through the winter and be used REGULARLY in the summer for fishing/hunting trips and the like. I can't get one that "fragile" and can't survive the cold.

HAHA -30 in a screened in pop up ya, might be a bit nippy.

As far as cost goes, I'm working with about 10K. These are to the upper end of that but are do-able. I'd rather have a full metal one that you don't have to set up BUT the weight is pushing 3500-4500 pounds and that seems alot for an XJ. Esspecially when I'll be buying the camper in maine-new york area and pulling it another 4,000 miles to alaska through some questionably maintained roads.

Pop-ups were very popular amongst my relatives some years ago. They've most all gone gooseneck now days. A friend just recently bought an all-metal, but he paid considerably more than $10k and he pulls it with an F250. My experience with pop-ups is that set-up and tear-down are not that big a deal, and for getting into tighter areas (Ozark woods in my experience) a low profile pop-up is less hassle. The main concern is mold. You got to make sure you put it away dry. Unless you know that you won't have trail width or overhang issues, I'd try to stay low profile.

I have no idea what these are going for, but the ad looks kinda pricey. It'd fit 5 a little easier than a tent version, and they're not that heavy: specs I have no experience with the hard-side pop-ups, though.

I pulled a jayco popup pretty regularly with my folks '85 2.8 cherokee, then 4.0 comanche and then my 86 and 89 cherokees. Probably pulled it 50k miles off hunting and camping. The heater was nice to have for sure.

It held up 13 years, with kids and heavy use. 4 years should be no issue, even in Alaska.....

The forced air furnace we had was a little rough on batteries though, my understanding is that the new ones are much better.
