Transport of Dana 44 from Oregon to Montana

I had my brother rebuild a Dana 44 axle for me and need to get it to Montana. Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to get it transported. Most freight companies are saying 250 or more. Please help...

I would think that that would be the best way. A drive would cost that in just gas, if a private carrier hauled it. Try UPS or FedEx yet?

Try Forward Air. They have terminals in Portland. If there's a terminal near you I have found they're the least expensive for heavy stuff.

What I have done in the past is to find a local company (on either end of the transaction) who is willing to use their shipping company (someone who usually transports large pieces of equipment, parts, etc. They will get much less trucking costs and can deliver from a company to a company.

I have found this to be significantly less expensive. I recently trucked a Corp 14 bolt from Colorado to Washington and paid less than $150. It was trucked from 1 company to another. The shipper used this trucking company before and I just asked a local company (United Rentals) to let the trucking company drop off the axle there and I would pick it up.

Dang, I just made a trip over to Minnesota 2 weeks ago. I had plenty room for an axle to. $250 would have soften the $1100 fuel bill.

Most the online quotes from fwd air online are inaccurate, you need to take it to thier terminal and get a firm rate. I've shipped a few d44's IIRC both were WA to the east coast cost was $110-130 (one was heavier with TJ brackets)including a small fee to have them palletize it. The weird part was they both made it to the east coast terminal within a week.

try greyhound. i got my roofrack from them. it was cheap and super fast. not sure about the weight of the axle, but it's worth checking out.
