Could anyone tell me how to ID the 5-spd in my Cherokee?? (4.0-1992) It has 9 large ribs on the drivers side of the case and a serial number starting with 204.... on the bottom-it's whining like crazy and I'll need to rebuild it shortly. I can't tell if it's an AX-15 or AX-5. Thanks to all!!! And does anyone make decent replacement bucket seats??? My kid has mine leaning back so far that I can barely drive it.... Thanks

Cool, thanks!! Are they terribly expensive to rebuild?? I had the 909 re-did in my 86 wagoneer limited (2.8)-I pulled it-and it was $700-I was hoping a manual would somehow be cheaper....grinding when I try to downshift-syncros are going as best I can figure-any experience out there with fixing a leak on a np-231 t-case?? it's either the rear seal or the case gasket just in front of it... thanks

I'm in the process of replacing mine because of a bad input shaft bearing. Remans are going for about $60-700 plus a core charge and shipping. I'm junk yarding a lower mileage one. The one I've got has 245K miles on it, so if I can get one with less than 100 I think it will last me the life of the truck. Junk yard pricing seems to start at $200 for a trans with no bellhousing, and about 350 for one with bellhousing/slave/clutch parts
