Has anyone tried "trans cool" or the radiator additives. If so, Do they work? Have you noticed any difference when you used them? just curious, I have always been skeptical of these types of products.

Thanks

I run Purple Ice (from Royal Purple) - didnt notice the engine running cooler on the temp gauge, but it doesnt seem to go over 210 much, if ever (i.e., on the trail). Supposed to be good for your water pump too.

running a lower thermostat isn't good to do on our rigs. 195-210 is the engines optimum running temp. otherwise at 190 and down it will run rich and ruin your fuel economy.

Not everyone has ill effects from a lower temp thermostat. Most who do try to run a 160/165 and that is too low. I would go no lower than 185!

When you run Water Wetter, you want to ruun it with straight water, not antifreeze. That is where you get your most economical heat reduction.
If the rig is a daily driver they (the manufacturer of water wetter) suggests using a minimum of 15% antifreeze. If you want the best results they say use straight water, but its not meant to protect the cooling system from corrosion though.

I never can understand why folks think that running a lower temp thermostat will make the vehicle run cooler. A 165* stat opens at 165* which only allows the radiator to heat up quicker than with a 195*. Also, the 4.0's efficiency range is right at 205/210 so to think you are gonna get magic/cooler results from running a 160-185 stat is a figmund of your imagination. DMC intended for your Cherokee to run at 210. Dont waste you rmoney. If you are running over 210/215, you have other issues.

The End.

Talking about keeping it real!! :)

I've used the purple ice and it seemed to keep it from ever going over 210 even on the trail. The water wetter didn't show me any difference at all even using mostly water. I used the water wetter after I had to flush the radiator and I couldn't get my hands on the purple ice

It all seems to be a bandaid fix to me. If your cooling system is working properly, there shouldn't be a need for additives. Now, I understand running trails in AZ in July with the A/C on places a ton of stress on the cooling system, and in that case it may be worth it. If you are having issues with your rig running hot on the street, I'd delve into the real problem first.

In my experience slinging parts at Advance, the people that buy Water Wetter, etc are the same people that buy head gasket repair in a bottle vs. fixing the dang HG.

My 01 runs right at 210 on the trail, with the aux. fan occasionally kicking on for 30 sec. or so. I'm adding hoodvents soon to augment cooling, but it works good enough for me.

I run water wetter in my rad. I noticed a very slight difference, but it could just be me wanting to notice a difference.

Its 4 bucks for a bottle. IMO, if it works or not, 4 bucks isn't something I'm going to lose sleep over. Just try it.
